john deere 2750

Some one out there will have an opinion on this. I'm looking at a used JD 2750 4 wheel drive. The tractor looks pretty good for being 32 years old BUT... It has the usual electrical problems for a 2750 and, more worrisome, there seems to be a substantial hydraulic/transmission oil leak coming out the bottom, somewhere between the motor and trans. housing. I'm not familiar with John deeres, only what I've been reading. This could be serious if it's a seal and the tractor has to be split to repair. The guy says it doesn't leak bad (?).
I need to get a bigger tractor for baleing and it would be good to have a backup machine. This is just the size I'd like (75 hp) and the price is ok ($18000) if it doesn't need another $3-4K to keep it going. What do you all think? Could this be an easy fix? Thanks.

There have been a very few of those in the area.I know less than nothing about them. But,A good friend has one. Has nothing but good to say about it.Also says that it would out work his old(AC XT109) 100 horse tractor because of the 4 wheel drive

Plowboy,
Can answer the leak question. Around here that price seems a bit high if its just the tractor without a cab or loader.

I ran a 2955 4wd for my tree planter for a few years, very nice, couldn't justify the price to use it twice a year.

Good luck
Rick

Does tractor have hyd hi-lo or hyd reverser? Leak could be rear engine oil seal or trans input shaft seal or hyd hi-lo/reverser which all would require a split between engine & clutch housing to repair.

Don't let the need for a split enter into your decision a bit. If you have any mechanical ability at all a split is just time and muscle, it is not complicated. If you decide to do it there is plenty of help here.

Yes, it does have high/ low, but not sure about the reverser...I don't think so. It does have a cab (a little on the ruff side) and comes with a loader (owner put it on and doesn't use it much, says he usually drops it off). Thanks for all the replies!

I suppose I should have asked if it had hyd hi-lo OR hyd reverser as it can only have one or the other. IIRC either hyd unit is in clutch housing and could be the source of the hyd leak.
