Hi there I have a 2008 Dodge Challenger with the 6.1 hemi, was wondering if I remove the exhaust if I can just get some turn downs and put right behind the cats, will this harm anything, will it hurt the motor any, will be about 10inches of pipe behind cats turning down, if I don"t like the sound or its to noisy I will find a cat back system later. Just wanna know if it"ll hurt anything thanks

on't hurt anything.

If you have any kind of inspection in your state it will not pass unless the exhaust extends past the body/passenger area. Trunk is considered passenger area since it is not sealed off from rest of body.

I'd spend the money and run the pipes on out the back. It will still sound nice outside but will be a lot quieter inside the car.

I dont think it will hurt anything if you dont mess with any O2 sensors. One thing to consider is how much dust and dirt will get kicked up and ruin your wash job.

I should have included this in my earlier post, anytime you do not get the exhaust past the passenger compartment you run the risk of it being drawn back in around a leaky gasket, etc. and getting Carbon monoxide in the passenger compartment with you. CO poisoning is not fun, take it from someone who has experienced it.

my thoughts exactly.

Cars can still sound plenty good enough with the pipes out the back where they belong.

Problem with carbon monoxide poisoning is that you usually don't now it's happening till you're dead.

Probably less to worry about on a newer car like that, it's probably sealed up pretty well - but still, I just don't see that there's enough upside to justify any risk at all.

It will probably hurt your resale/trade-in value. Save the old parts in case you need to re-install them. Long trips can get pretty tiresome in a noisy car, BTDT.

The vehicle will sound like it belongs to some teenaged donkey.

Won't hurt anything as far as the car goes, but it will be miserable to drive. And then there is the CO problem that may come up.

The CO may accomplish a chlorination of the gene pool of those that think they have the God-given right to annoy the living crap out of the rest of us, similar to the "truckers" that need to use their "Jake Brakes" at all times.

I LOVE engines and sweet even-firing exhaust notes, and tuning them and their exhaust sounds, but for God's sakes once you are over 25 or 30 years of age, WHY does anyone feel the need to run "open headers" on the street???
