Can anyone tell me anything about these tractors? The one I am looking at, (pictures only) is at Dealership with 1,000 hours on it. They claim it is clean and came from a Monsanto test farm. Without looking at it in person, tough decision to buy or not. The tractor is about a 5 1/2 hour drive away. Dealership said they would haul it to my barn door. Your thoughts?

I just posted about that tractor a few days ago. In 2008 I worked on a horse farm with at that time had about 185 horses. They had a JD5303, I just googled the tractor and it looked the same. It was on what they called the feeder wagon , it was used everyday day 2xs a day with a trailer to go out into the pastures and feed the horses, hay and pellets, they also did alot of pasture mowing with it. It seemed like a good tractor, it was 2wd and comfortable to use, I only used it a handful of times to replace someone else on feeder wagon duty. I do remember it seemed to feel light in the front end , I do believe they had weights on it, but I'm not 100% sure? I always liked there Ford 4600 better, but I won't say the Deere was not a good tractor. It did its job everyday, and was used buy a bunch of different people, there were 20 barn workers when I was there, and some should not have been using any of the tractors! Lol

have 2 WD with a loader, pretty useless without front assist, run a 7ft JD rotary cutter also main complaint is gearing -3 range a-b-c/ 3speed hard to find a good working speed, and reverse is turtle (a) rabitt (b) lightning (c). personally wouldn;t have one, they were built in more than one factory also so you have to know where it was assembled to get the filters ect. be sure you have part no's and serial no's because there will be 3 possibilities and if the parts man isn't familiar with the model it wont do much good to look up parts. If it was assembled in Mexico like ours you may have to wait on them to order anything you need none of the dealers in my area stocks for those.

i have a 5403 good tractor for the money starts good when cold and had good power will pull a 10 ft hog goodin good grass and runs 915 moco just fine

The JD 5303 was made in India. I was JD economy tractor. They are about 55 PTO horse power. Simple tractor with a nine speeds forward and three reverse transmission. Metal/tin fenders. They are not a bad tractor compared other economy tractors. They are not a premium tractor. Few bells and whistles on them.

I sold a few new and if you sold them to some one that understood he was buying a economy tractor they liked them. If the fellow thought he was getting a Regular Augusta built JD then he would not be happy. My usually customer for them where small land owners and horse people. They wanted a cheaper tractor but did want new so they did not have to work on it.

I have one I bought new in 04 or 05. It has a loader on the front end. I use it as my primary tractor. I use it for everything, tillage, baling hay, feeding etc. I would buy another one tomorrow if I needed a replacement. I have 2600 hours on it.

The only drawback/ fault is it needs an inline fuel filter between tank and water separater.

Email should be open if you have any direct questions
