Wheat to oats conversion...

My JD 455 35' drill holds right 3 bu 60# wheat per foot or about 105 bu. How many bu of forage oats is that per foot or drill full? Oats is 32# @ bu. I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks

A bushel is a bushel is a bushel. If it holds 105 bu wheat it holds 105 bu oats, or 105 bu beans. The weight of seed in the box changes with test weight.

Thats kind of what I was thinking a bushel is a bushel by volume but the Weight of that type of seed is the difference. I greatly appreciate your help thank you.

that's what I was thank you but I didn't know if that was correct but it bushel to bushel but it's the weight of the product is what's the difference. thank you for your help I greatly appreciate it

darn spell check that is what I was thinking a bushel to a bushel but the difference is in the weight of the product. Thanks

Drill will hold 105 bu, just the same as wheat, as bushel is a volume measure, it will not change. However, weight will change with test eight of grain (wheat is 60 pounds per bushel), I doubt that your oats actually weight 32 pounds, that may be the book weight for them, but most are heavier these days... Our local elevator specifies 40 pounds or greater, with lower price or outright refusal of oats uhh lighter that that..

Drill capacity in bushels will be the same, but seeding rate will be different due to seed size and shape. Set the drill with the rate chart to get the rate you want.

Is that like a ton of feather vrs a ton on lead? which hurts more if it falls on you?

No, it's more like a bushel of feathers vs a bushel of lead.
