Looking this morning for some parts! And found some pictures of tractors fresh in for salvage and looking at the pics made me think one why do I drag some of the stuff home that I do cause most looks way worse than what thier parting! And two I'm 28 and if I'm still around in 50 years what am I gonna fix up then I know I still have trouble convincing myself I may see a 1066 reach 100 years old! I love these old tractors but think I may see the day I won't be able to keep them goin! Makes me wonder! Ok back to work

I myself seam to buy tractors and equipment that seam nobody wants or think its to far gone to keep and let it go. I buy it and fix them back up to good condition and working order. I take pride in making something from nothing and back in the field. The older stuff is easy enough to work on and get parts for. Now this new stuff now in 25 years may not be running simply because you just don't know if the computer and operating system will be supported after say 15 years. Case in point JD 9400 combine, If the computer dies and if you can find a used one to get it going your in good shape but no new ones are made now. Outdated and old so junk it because it wont run without it. Last year I bought a 1555 Oliver (ware it was sitting for 3 years in picture) for parts to use on my 3 1550's I have. I got it home and did a hard look at it, Record radiator new intake exhaust manifold 2 year old clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing and strait sheet metal. The bad, engine locked up 3 bad tires bad seat faded paint and missing some small parts hear and there. I could not part it out till I tried to get it running. Well I did and fixed her up and sold it and made alittle money and bought parts to fix the other 1550's I have. I took pride in the fact that I got her looking good and back in the field. The man the has it now loves it and knows what I did to it. I'm in my 50's and I figure I will keep doing this till the day I die, So your in the same boat as me and a lot of others so keep up the good work and doing what your doing. Bandit

I like to think of it this way - By the time things get to the point where all usable replacement parts are too far gone - 3D metal printing will have advanced so far that all you'll need are the dimensions.

I went to a guys place years ago to buy parts. I was shocked to see a beautiful Farmall SC being torn apart and sold for parts. I asked him what was wrong with it and he told me nothing...beautiful tractor, ran great. I asked him why he was parting it out and he told me that "WE" (meaning the tractor collectors) did not want old rusty pitted parts. So he only bought the best tractors and then parted them out. Apparently, "WE" like to buy junk and spend a fortune fixing it up so that guys like him can buy them and part them out and sell them back to us piecemeal. He had a whole yard full of really nice tractors...all destined for the same fate. Food for thought.

For some people , it's all about the money from parting out . For me it's all about restoring and having fun !I don't want to be one of those rich guys in the CEMETARY .

Bandit: You have stated that about the JD 9400 Combine before. I went in and looked up every computer on a JD 9400 and they all are still serviced. Some of them are subbed up to a newer number but they are still able to work. The one is in a service bulletin but there is still a way to replace the old one with a unit that works. I would really like to know what computer this fellow says he can't find???

Also there are several places that can repair just about any of these computer controls. I have sent them to several places and had them repaired for way less than new would have been.
