ebay trader

got a phone call from a individual identifying him self as a ebay trader and for $500.00 he will provide me with individuals that he knows want the style of tractor that I am selling on kijiiji and this site.
any body out there had any experience with this type of advertising?

And when you find out you have been slickered you can just add the $500 to the price of the tractor! Why should YOU be out anything!?

Actually, "ebay trader" is his second job. His primary occupation is separating folks from 500 bucks and never communicating with them again.

Did you google the phone number he called from? I'm curious. About a year ago I listed aluminum camper jack stands in the RV section of Craig's List and got a call from a guy offering to help me with the pitch, "we have seen an increase in buyers searching for your model RV". I was befuddled and said what RV? He said the one you listed on Craig's List is very popular now. I assured him I had no RV on CL and he must have called the wrong number, but he persisted. Eventually unable to convince him, I hung up. Later I figured they were calling everyone with a listing in the RV section and my jack stands were in there--they couldn't care less the specifics just that there was a listing.

A google of the number revealed it is a business in the US that sells ads in their online for sale web site or some print flyer they give out. Seems it was like $300 or $500. Basically the same thing as taking out a news paper ad just a lot more expensive. Probably completely legal and "legit" but like a pay-day or title loan a complete rip-off.

It also might be a guy in Istanbul who wants you to wire the money to him and you will get nothing in return.

Trust me, individuals interested in your style tractor know how to do a key word search on ebay.

It's probably not necessarily a "scam" per se - I'm sure he's got a website that people hit when they good search for tractors ... but -

it's just TOO likely that those same searchers will also find you on ebay all by themselves, without any help.

He probably also does emailings that mostly end up in people's junk mail - and do nothing more than say hey, come look at this tractor on ebay. 1% of those recipients will be interested, and out of those 1% of those will click on it to see it, and 1% of those might consider buying it.

Hardly worth 500 bucks!

One told me he had buyers that would pay a lot more than I was asking for my tractor.I told him I would sell it to him and he could make more than the 500 he was asking for.Click went the phone.

What Ray said.

Think about it. If he could sell it for $500 more than your price, why isn't he offering to buy it outright?
