Found this device in an old tool box, and I wondered how many of you old timers can instantly identify it. (Mike (WA), take a walk around the block before responding.)

I have seen this before and I am not real sure but it looks like a part that was used in one of our milking machines. As said I have seen part but real sure.

I don't know, but I sure recognize that ruler! I worked for our state fighting wildfire for 33 fire seasons. Did a lot of prevention programs handing those out.

It's a PTO locking pin for the PTO joint on an implement where it slides onto the PTO shaft....

Yep. You got it!

The ones in the lid of the old seam type buckets had a pin that didn't have the rubber tip and was larger on the bottom so it wouldn't come out.

There was a guy down south of me who used to have a bucket under the wash vats and they'd just throw the wash water out the barn door in to the manure. One of his sons washed the milkers one time and left those rubber tipped pins in the water and they went down the drain. They ended up getting tossed out in the mud. He said they looked high and low for those things. Finally had to cut some big nails off and use those in the lids so they could milk that night.

I knew this one wouldn't take long before someone nailed it. This was in one of our Surge milker pulsators, purchased new in about 1949. Frankly, I couldn't remember how many of these were in the pulsator---one, two or four.

Good eye, guys.

Just seeing that photo brought back lots of "smell memories" of "dairy air"!

You're thinking of the pistons with the leathers on them that were inside the pulsator. There was only one of these that dropped down in to the lid and sealed the vacuum in when the inflations were at rest.
