I order two 7/8 x 11/8 x 1" bearings by my local parts store,..they are called roller and cage assemblies( rollers are exposed on the outside as well as the inside as the rollers ride on the inside of the housing as well as on the shaft)
I get the call 2 days later ..yer bearings are in,..i go get them(40ml round trip)
Nope, wrong bearings..they're just ordinary 13 in a dozen needle bearings in a bushing.

I phone a bearing house, just to make sure i explain twice what i wanted,...Them,..yep i know what yer talking about and yes we have them,$24 a piece..Me, chuck them on the bus please.
Today a week later i go pick them up (other 40 mile round trip)to greyhound bus depot $26 freight charge.
Back home i open the package,..WTF,..same ordinary needle bearings i got from the first store.
Now i'm out $75 and still no bearings.

What the F is wrong with people these days:roll:

I shoulda got them from the dealer but that was a 3 week waiting time.
Now i still have to get them from the dealer it seems.
I'am slightly ticked off right now :x

I looked for those, could no longer fine that style, machine
shop put in a oiled bronze bushing for me.

Guess I know them as a caged bearing, but probably just
slang.

What are they for? I have a bunch of NOS bearings (Allis Chalmers) that may be that size.

That's why I like to do my own research, look up
the dimensions, get a part number, check the
price. Usually can find a deal on Ebay, Amazon,
etc.

Don't know how far you are away, BUT, there is an excellent bearing supply joint in Grande Prairie. Phone book is your friend. If I was there I could show you (not there), but I don't remember the name. I can ask my son that lives there. E-mail open here. HTH

roblem is there i no name or number on the bearings.
I looked on line but could not find model or the size i needed.
It could very well be that these bearings are strictly sold OEM
These bearings are out of the planetary drive of a over/under hydr shift from a 1855 Cockshutt.
I have ordered a pair from AGCO this afternoon, they didn't know how long it would take to get them.

What pizzes me off is that if a parts outfit can't supply exactly what i ask for and then substitute a part with an other one that THEY think will do.

Checked mine, they are 7/8 x 1 1/4 x 1" long....got a bunch of them....

(quoted from post at 15:05:15 03/05/15) Bummer. I guess sometimes living way up north can
have its draw backs.
t has nothing to do with living up north Bruce.
I usually can get most everything i need locally or from the city. It is when people are incompetent that problems arise.

These guys know what they are talking about and ship quickly from stock.

I really doubt they substituted your parts. They
just ordered what they thought was the correct
part by the info you gave them.

Ever try to order wheel cylinders for a 1960's
truck? That takes at least four trys to get the
correct part. The problem is part numbers froms
days back don't cross over correctly to current
part numbers.

I believe those type are called journal roller bearings.
They use them a lot in manual transmissions. One good example is the NV4500 in chevy & dodoge pickups. There are 5 in that transmission.
Torrington is the name of a bearing manufacturer. They make many styles of bearings, but most people refer to flat thrust bearings or caged needle bearings as "torrington' bearings.
Here are some examples.
bearing styles

If they are what I think they are I have an Amish friend that could make them for you. Does a lot of them as they were the standard bearing on machinery up into the 50's

Bison on a "special" bearings like those on the inside of a planetary drive, I usually go with OEM in that even if bearing look the same you can't tell the load rating from just looking at them.

I had a 13 speed transmission that kept knocking one of the bearings out of the back case. It was a good thing you did not have to remove the entire transmission to get to the bearing. I replaced it every few months three times. It just was a straight roller bearing. I was going to the local bearing house and getting them. I finally got one from Fuller and it lasted for over two years when we then sold the truck. The OEM bearing was different in some way.

A verbal description is worth the paper it is written on. Get on the manufacture's web site and find an actual part number then order it.
Just try the words chips, fries, crisps, potato chips, biscuits, scones and cookies around the country. They all vary in definition.

Well i have them on order by the dealer now so..
I didn't think a standard 7/8 x 11/8 x 1" open cage roller bearing would that be that special but apparently the various brand bearing books don't list this particular size in this style brg.

Be my guest,...go find that bearing.
All you have to work with is actual dimensions...no name no number
