Went out to blow the lane this morning, there is a steep bank on both sides of part of it, got too close to one side and tractor slipped over. Over far enough I was afraid it would roll . The other tractor of course would not start, so a neighbour came with his truck to try and pull me out. we made it worse, had to call the tow truck, thank goodness he has 2 winches. took him about 2 hours to get me out. This ruined my day.

I would just call it a minor set back, yes it wasted your day, yes it costed you money and gave you a real good scare,,, BUT you are still here to tell us all about your event. doesnt sound like you or the tractor was hurt. You will be more cautious next time and may even install some tire chains on for traction, or stake markers to keep you on track. Obviously someone was watching over you and gave you a second chance, others arnt so lucky. glad you are OK.

I did it twice in a week. There is one spot about 30 feet long that drops off the side of the driveway, I was trying to get it blown back as far as possible to stop the drifting and over I went. Got a bigger tractor going but was alone, so I would put pressure on the chain, put the parking brake on, jump on stuck tractor and try to back up, rinse and repeat until I finally got it out. did it again yesterday in nearly the same spot, ended up against the fence and wrecked 2 fence posts but got out on my own.

I did it once with a school bus! It was snowy and she just started sliding sideways on the lane. I stopped and she just slowly slid to rest up against the telephone pole. Right about the middle of the bus in front of the middle clearance light. I got her out, but it cost me a couple clearance lights.

Glad it didn't go over on you.

Don't feel bad, it even happens to the professionals..... the road grader was pushing back the snow on the shoulders by our house the other day he slipped off the edge down by the swamp and got sucked in. They spent most of the afternoon down there and ended up calling a big wrecker.

In the fall I mark out my driveway with those fiberglass sticks. They sell at box stores and my neighbor plows. He brought a bunch home in the spring for him and me. Looks like an orange tooth pick trail but I can always find where I am. Trim stones and such do not like a blower!

Don't beat yourself up. I have a lot of years of seat time but I took my right tires off the edge of the drive this winter. About a 4-5' steep slope there. Heavy blade on the back, loader on the front. It was REALLY close to going over. I said a prayer, cut the wheel downhill and drove it into the ditch. Once in there, I dropped the blade and used the loader to curl my way up the slope again. THEN I chained to the blade and pulled it up. I was not happy with self that day.

Had that happen one night to me also. At the time I only had one tractor. Asked the neightbor to bring his tractor but he showed up in the pickup with chains on the rears. He hooked the chain, got rid of the slack, and stood on the gas. He got me out but the rocks flying past my head scared the crap outta me.

My wife put a school bus into a ditch on an icy road once. She thought it was going to go over, but it didn't.

She called for help on the radio. About then one of the kids on the bus said, "I have to go to the bathroom".

My wife said, "So do I!"

The school bus was going down a hill towards a tee road. The driver hit the brakes so he would not run the tee off into the creek bottom. He slid into the ditch on the way down but he had chains with him. I helped him get the chains on. Why, I don't know because I didn't want to go to school. He got out okay. We were just late getting to school. If that road would be open like in the past and we would have run the tee, we would have been into Clinton Lake today.

Couple weeks ago the County loader was pushing back snow bands. Operator knocked off a fire hydrant and cracked plastic water main underneath. Ruined more than one guys day and ninht. It was about 15 degrees that day.

I'd say it was your lucky day! The tractor did not roll and you are alive and undamaged to tell about it!

Yes it does happen to "professionals." Yesterday I called the county road dept. to see if they were going to plow our road this round of snow or let it melt off like the last one we got. They told me that they had one in the ditch and one is someones pasture field. Were calling them back in till it quit. Magistrate told me that our road was 1st on the list. I should have asked what kind of list. Still not plowed.

All the darned snow, happens to most of us at one point or another. Myself, thinking of the driver who delivers the heating oil, I keep a path clear to the filler pipe, well it drifted in, which this year was unique, lot of heavy winds from the south, never got warm enough to pack or settle, yet the blower would not cut into the snow, so I took the tractor and used the loader to push my way through, and of course I got stuck at the end of it, being sloped and all. So I go with it, down the hill into the adjacent field and then usually turn on the flat area and head towards the road. Its not the first time and is my usual escape route. Well I did not put the double ring chains on, as I used the blower mostly, so I did not need them, wrong, hit a deep pocket of snow! Had to fill a wheelbarrow with a pair of chains, blocking and a bottle jack, wheel it in the tire track to the tractor jack it up, put just one side on, worked my way out. Just made extra work for myself, what else is new LOL ! Many don't leave a path for these guys, I think that is kind of rude, so I try and get it done regardless the outcome LOL !
