hello everyone I've been toying around the idea of putting a chevy 292 straight 6 in my oliver 77. I've herd that it will bolt right in, I'm sure it wont be a weekend project. But then i had the idea, if i can find a adapter plate for a gm bell housing to a 4bt cummins would it work? just a thought, what do you all think

It's not my project, but I've got a couple of belt driven governors here off combines. One was on a 292 Chevy in a New Idea Uni.

i have no idea how, it was just a crazy idea i had, im still not sure i really want to do a swap or just rebuild the motor in it. it was just a crazy idea but if it might just work, i might try it

I've been tempted to try to put a 6.9 diesel out of a Ford pickup in an Oliver 1600 chassis that I have sitting here, but I'd have to retire and devote full time to it to ever get it done. lol

Olivers should be one of the easiest to do a swap on ? Bath tub frame chain & drive coupler would make for a bolt in couple up and go unit.

Do you have a good, running 292? If so, it might
be worth doing. If not, chances of finding one, or
finding one that doesn't need to be rebuilt, is
going to be harder than rebuilding your existing
motor.

Doing a engine swap is not an easy task. Always something pops up, an obstacle that you would least expect can turn into a deal breaker.

In the past I seen some oliver 70 with a 6 cyl chevy in them. Plus a host of other equipment repowered with all variations of chevy 6 cyl.

They make a belt drive governor for just such applications. Shoot I have one laying around out in my shop

I do not see why it could not be done. If money is a concern, it would be tough to get your money out of it if you want to sell it.

I did not understand his reference to 4bt conversion plate on doing the chevy swap I think 4bt would be pretty easy to drop in there.

Go for it. When I went to farm mechanics school in 1969-70 one of my instructors was an old Oliver mechanic. He said the Oliver engines resembled a Chevy six. I'll bet if you stuck the Chevy in there it would still sound like an Oliver.

A friend has a Ford 300 in his Oliford 70. he put it together for pulling and didn't bother with a governor.
