I usually would post this on t tales, but Bandit farmer was interested in NJ,so I wanted to make sure he caught it,Its snowing here in NJ,and is supposed to snow all day. The wifes work is closed ,so she needed her computer for a while this morning,I Didnt want to get in her way,and it had just started to snow,so I took a walk. I decided to take my camera a take pictures of whatever caught my eye.

Larry the home, corn crib pedestrian bridge, and the barn, now that's some great re-purposing !!!! Nice photos of old buildings, if they could just speak. I enjoy all the little outbuildings and what their purpose was. I almost want to build a brick outbuilding like that one, you don't see those very often. I worked outside of Morristown one year, in Mendham off Washington valley road, we put in a new road for some McMansions just past the creek on the left. The old farm was rumored to have had George Washington stay there, there was an old house, barn and an old ice house, made of large/thick, stone with a wood framed hip roof, it was the coolest LOL! It had a flip up shutter over a window, I used to have lunch in or near it while on that site. I looked on the satellite view, I can't recognize anything today, this was the summer of '93. Great area from there to the south, really enjoyed the sites when I worked as an equipment operator there, even got more pay on that job for ripping rock with a D8K, well until the blaster was needed.

Nice photos, afraid I could not make that walk. Ill try and get out some latter today. Have 10 to 12 inches, kinda out of the ordinary for Tennessee in March.

Nice pictures, Thanks. Used to live in NJ, now in Virginia.
Snowing down here too but I'll hunker down inside and stay
warm until it is over.

PS. One difference between NJ and Virginia I have found is
that down here, everybody waves at you with all of their
fingers!

Really nice shots, Larry. I'd rather see your p
hotos than actually be there, I think. I wonder
about all those nice verandas on some of those
houses; they get to sit out there...what?...three
weeks a year?

Question: the little brick outbuilding you
surmised was a smokehouse; could it have been a
root cellar instead? We had a similar building
on my grandfather's old home place, and storing
potatoes and onions was its purpose.

Last comment: it was very gratifying see that we
have some Saints fans all the way up there in
Joisey!

It looks like a Lovely Day In The Neighborhood. The suns shining here in Mi but it looked like that a couple days ago.

I often wish I had been raised or moved to a place with more
of a history. My farm is 00 years old, and that's about as old as
they get around here. Future president Lincoln stayed a mile
south of me at the only hotel in Franklin County (at the time).
The building is still there and is being loved in but was not a
place to be proud of. Enjoy your history!

Good looking patch of pictures! There are some homes in Hillsboro that look a lot like the ones in your pictures, A lot of nice stone work. There is a high school east of me That I know you would like to see. It was built be Edward Lee McClain and given to the town for a school back about 1914 and he spared no expences in building it. Think turn of the century rich and that's how it was built and looks on the inside. Back in 1979 I was in the school and the bath rooms were all white marble and brass (that shined) to give you an idea of what it looked like then. Its not a small school ether. You can look it up under Greenfield McClain high school or Edward Lee McClain to see a lot of pictures of it.

I really do like your pictures, I don't think there is any bamboo growing around hear. Good thing it might be worse than Johnson grass was. My son lives just above Telford PA and were thinking about going over and seeing him and I may have to look you up if we do and say hello. Keep them coming! Bandit

I declare, Larry, you plumb wore me out! Time for a nice fire and cup of hot cocoa.
Interesting neighborhood. The barn converted into an office undoubtedly took a lot of planning to keep it looking as original as possible. The "drive slow" sign looks as if it has been there for some time. (But as long as it works, right?) And, Bamboo, I think, will survive just about anywhere!
I do enjoy photos of and/or driving through historic areas of a town. The small town of Asheboro, N.C.near me has a lot of older houses in areas. It has lost several in the past 25 years or so. The owners didn't care about age or historic value, so they were sold to make way for "progress".

Love those old homes. My favorite is the church. There was a metal building going up about 20 miles from our home. We thought it was going to be a farm supply store. Turns out it was a church. Probably the ugliest church building I have ever seen.
