I just could not resist buying another one. LOL It is a MFWD and I knew the tractor very well until four years ago. I had done all of the service work on it since new for a former customer.

The prior owner called me a few weeks back telling me his old tractors was for sale again.

So I went and looked at it. It has some issues now. The left front MFWD casting has the steering cylinder mounting ear broke off. And the left front steering cylinder is only half there. The ram is missing.

Also it is not shifting into 13th correctly. It will shift from 14th to 13th correctly but not 12th to 13th. I really looked long and hard an even took pressure readings. They all are correct. I am guessing/hoping that the shift valve has an internal issue.

To the good: The tractor has 85% Firestone rear tires. and the cab is still in good shape. It starts and runs fine too.

So I wrote the check and hauled it home today. The owner wanted a picture so I took one with my "stupid" phone. I forward them to my wife and she sends them to my computer. I will email him a picture of it leaving his place.

I think I will keep this one around if the issues are as minor as I think they are. It only has 4800 original hours. I almost bought it when it sold the last time but I just did not want to spend that much at that time. I am getting it a good bit cheaper now. So even if I have to spend some time and parts on it I should be OK.

They're hard to beat.

I've been helping a neighbor with a 7420 with electrical gremlins. The dealer can't fix it. Even when they can get their computer to talk with the tractor, it diagnoses it incorrectly.
We've got about 16" deep worth of books. And there's more.

Today, another neighbor with a brand new 3046(I think) compact can't make the electric front PTO work like it should.

I don't know if they need a different dealer, brand, or both?!

4250,4450 and 55's are in demand around here, the "Electronic Revolution" is finally hitting the wall, and the prices are showing it..a friend of mine just bought as nice 4040 so he can get rid of his 6300 that has been an electronic nightmare...

The way you describe it might require a little work. But, personally I would not buy a tractor in the 7XXX series. A lot of people have nothing but praise for them. But, with my luck I would buy the one with gremlins.
I know you want to keep the tractor, but I bet if you said it was for sale you could make pretty good money.

those 4450-55s are a great tractor! small enuff to cjore with and big enuff to go to the feild. really like the powershifts on those

Bob the electronics are the issue on just about anything built in the last 10-15 years. I would not own any JD newer than a JD 10 series. This when they started going to can bus electrical systems. The systems are faster and in the automotive world they have worked well. The trouble is they are much harder to diagnose and the fewer unit numbers of farm equipment makes the diagnostic equipment be not as good.

I am not sure if the electronic revolution will be a good long term thing for farm equipment. The large operators will demand the latest and greatest but there will be a much smaller resale market for that equipment. So the resale value is going to be smaller.

i had two 20 series 7420 and a 6420 with electrical problem they would run for awhile some time couple hrs then blow the fuses that runs the fuel pump and start 10amp fuses did all the checking fuel pump finally called service the young man in service i know him sense he was a baby told mr. b you know i have no idea but here is a number to jd-teck that hutson ag. has set up guys say check the solenoid on pre heat . i undid per-heat solenoid and that was the problem on both. they had gone bad.

When I worked at new holland we had a brand new tractor that wouldn't even unload itself off the semi finally got it somewhat working sold it then it was just problem after problem after problem guy brought it back had every guy in the shop work on it plug the computer in change a sensor work fine for awhile quit had new holland factory guy work on it and change something work fine then quit . Finally got it some what working sold it again .

We can thank the EPA for wrecking equipment with TierIII and Tier IV emissions. Tier V is on it's way.
How would somebody manage to smash the steering?

(quoted from post at 11:25:14 03/03/15) With all your money, maybe you could buy some chains and boomers.
oading or unloading, setting still. Not moving down the road, some times it just gets stupid on here.

Ozlander: I would be hard to take off with the trailer at this point. That is a hydraulic tail on this trailer. IT IS DOWN ON THE GROUND!!!! I had just stepped out of the cab when the seller wanted me to take a picture to send him of it leaving.

You actually thought I HAULED it down over 100 miles without it being tied down?????
