News flash! Cows will hide their calves after calving! Bet none of you farm guys knew THAT!

Wish I had a dollar for every hour I hunted for calves when we had the dairy.

And they are not taking the calf off the cow and actually milking her- so it looks like she's already well on her way to mastitis in the right front quarter, with more probably to follow.
Touchy feely animal rescue

hmmm....who'd a thunk that??? i just learned on yahoo news that the earth has two moons. go figure. well its kind of an asteriod that has a curly orbit.

umber than dirt!

Sure wish I could have been able to read a cows mind like these people can. Would have saved a lot of effort when dealing with cows.

They must have been watching to much touchy fealy stuff on the Disney Channel.

Holy moly. They've found the smartest cow on earth! With a long term memory, problem solving skills, critical thinking, and the ability to deceive, she is smarter than most teenagers I've come across. Better keep that calf! We could build a herd of genius cows......

The sad part is, millions of people in America today would take a video clip like this and think it was the gospel truth. It will only get worse as we get further disconnected from where our food comes from.

Spent hours looking for calves and trying to trick Mom into letting us know where her baby is. Have you ever noticed that some cows would always go to about the same spot year after year? Made it easy. Some caves did not help by not moving until you almost stepped on them

The real sad part is how many people will believe this story to be true?

Oh did you guys see the you tube video of Mark Dice doing a man on the street interview asking people if they would support Karl Marx as the next president of the USA?

Seems Marx may just be our next president!

MOAN!

When I retire,I want to become an activist so I can act like a senile old coot and actually get credit for being a genius.

Sometimes there's just nothing you can say.

It seems some of the stories you read on the internet are from people who don't have a clue. There was one a little while ago about a dog teaching a baby to jump....the child was in one of those bungee chairs, moving up and down a little. The dog was pouncing on the child's shadow....not trying to teach the child how to bounce in the chair. I guess Im smarter than I think lol.

Now there's a picture of a weasel riding a big green headed European woodpecker on MSN, now that's news.

Our pastures were flat land in ND; no trees so there was no place for the cow to hide a calf.

Yeah, I clicked on that one, too- just as I suspected, the weasel wasn't hitching a ride- he had jumped the woodpecker in a tree, and was trying to kill it. I've never seen a weasel do anything that didn't involve killing something.

Woody finally landed, someone distracted the weasel for a second, so Woody could take off.

I grew up on a dairy farm. 10 years with stupid cows was enough for me. I can say growing up on a dairy taught me how spread things. Very handy tool, especially when dealing with people. AND THAT'S NO BULL.

One time we had two city cousins watching a cow while she was having her calf. One puked his guts out and other one ran in the house. He did not come out until it was time to go home.

Sis called me the other nite- her son's mother in law was staying at son's place, right next to sis's, and one of Sis's cows was having a calf right next to the fence. Its a 10 year old cow, calf every year, never a problem. MIL called 5 or 6 times, with a blow by blow-

"Something's coming out of her back end- looks like a membrane of some kind- is that normal?"
"Yep, its all fine- just let nature take its course."

"Should I go help her?"
"Uhhh- just what would you do to help?"

"It came out, but its all gooky- will it catch cold?"
"No, it'll be fine." (Temperature was in the 50's at the time)

"She's licking it- should she be doing that?"
"Yes, that's what she's supposed to do."

"Now, the other cows are coming around- are they going to kill the calf?"
"No, they're all friends- others are just coming to congratulate the new mother."

Lots of drama on the farm.
