OT: Premonition; I hate new cars...

For some reason I had a bad feeling about going out today. For decades I have driven complete junkers and, if anything, people would pull off to the side of the road until I pass. After 20 years of marriage I saved enough to buy my wife our first new car. Shortly thereafter it got totaled when rammed from behind by a Ford pickup (solid truck I might add). 20 years after that I'm on my 5th new car and today someone pulls a left in front of us and it was a direct hit. Totaled again. If I was driving one of my $%it boxes this would never have happened. To top it off my wife was just about healed from surgery on her left hand 4 months ago (The bills are still coming in for that). Guess what the only injury is? Yup, her left hand is all smashed up and after 4 hours in the ER she needs more surgery maybe tomorrow. Did I mention how I hate airbag smoke?

I know what you mean. I drove the same pickup for over 23 years, never so much as hit a junebug. I bought a pretty nice 07 in September, hit a deer in November.

You never lose the $2.00 sunglassws just the $40.00 pair, but just be hopfull your alive, older car without safety in mind, my not have the same out come had it happened.

With a new tire on my truck it was a piece of shard from a toilet. Such a big tear the tire was junk.

I have to admit that the car automatically called 911 and I was talking to a dispatcher without even knowing who, how, or where I was talking to them. This brings me to another point; later when they were loading my wife into the ambulance she handed me her "smart" phone. I hadn't a clue how to operate it so I gave it back to her before her sister showed up.

You joke, but it happened. I didn't get the road hazard warranty either.
It couldn't have happened at a much worse time. My appendix burst,I spent 8 days in the hospital, had to be opened up again a month later to drain the infection. I went to pick up some parts, figured that wouldn't hurt me. They were repaving the road and the flagman had just stopped traffic. I didn't want to wait,so I tuned off and went a mile over and went up a gravel road. I don't know what I hit,but it slashed a tire and ruined it. All I had was the screw jack that came with the pickup. I pulled in to the nearest yard when the tire blew. The woman there said she'd take me down the road to her brother in laws to get a real jack. The guy wasn't home, but she told me to go ahead and get it. Well,it was a big floor jack. I lifted it in to her truck with a big hole in my gut. Had to change the tire with a 4 way,8 bolt of course, then load the jack back up and take it back. Sure wish I'd have waited for the flagman.

If it weren't fur bad luck, you wouldn't have no luck at all.
Think about this: You didn't hit the deer, it hit you, unless you drove into the woods and hit it.
If it comes oot in da road it hits you. Dat is vhat an insurance man told us in a safety meating.

Went and picked up new Chev pickup, got almost half-way thru town, about 12 miles on odometer, and got rear-ended by a buddy I hadnt' seen in years.
On positive side, wife got side-swiped and slammed by cattle trailer going out of control, all her air bags blew and saved her.

Too bad your wife has to go through all that pain again. The car didn't feel pain but she did. The car can to be hauled away and replaced but she has to heal. My opinion of wrecking a new car is its better financially to wreck a new car than wrecking an old car if the insurance company is any good.

Well with a new car you always seem to have a target on it ! Mom had about 3 parking lot hits in the first few weeks of one of hers. And this was from her co workers ! Sister had someone back into her new car too.

I bought an '88 Dodge Dakota that was pretty much snake-bit from the start. 1988 was the first year of production for these. Ordered an nice bright red one, waited a couple of weeks for it to come in. Dealer called and said your truck is in, went up there (about an hour drive away). It was sitting on a separate lot, went over there with the sales guy.... big crease on the hood. Into their body shop, and got it in another 2 wks., they did a nice job, couldn't tell it was damaged. Took a trip in it that year to VA and FL... got hit in a hotel parking lot. The next year several sensors went bad and had to be replaced (warranty covered). A couple of weeks later the transmission went bad, real bad. Took them 3 weeks to fix it, apparently is was a new model trans and the dealer had no experience with it. That was the last straw, sold at a loss to a drunken airline pilot for cash and bought an '89 Ford full size van. Never had such bad luck with a vehicle before or since. We've never owned another Chrysler corp. product since then either.

My sister has the worst luck with new cars I have ever seen. 1st new car at 22 she was about to leave the dealership when she was hit by a drunk driver in the parking lot, Car totaled. 2nd new car, She picked it up from the dealer and drove to work and parked and as she is walking away truck blows a tire and hit the big sign out front and the big sign falls and totals her new car. 3rd new car she came to the field ware me and dad were baling hay to show off the new car. As she walked to us a tire from an air plane that fell off hits and totals her new car. The insurance Co. loved that one. #4 new car ,She test drove it and it developed a miss so they took it right in to fix while she signed the papers, As she finishes she herd a fire truck pulling in. Her new car caught fire while being worked on as she was signing the papers and is totaled. NEW CAR #5 She comes to the farm and asks me to take a ride, Theses not a snow balls chance in ---- of me riding in that car! WHY? Why do you think? She leaves mad at me,20 min later my phone rings and its her Can you come get me? Why? MY CAR! OK ware are you? I leave and find her standing behind her mashed up car. A truck came around the corner in town and a pallet of cement fell off the trailer and totaled her new car. She has the worst luck with new cars. She was never hurt in any way from all of this.

She asked me if she could borrow my car for a bit till she got things straitened out. Sure its an old beater anyway what could it hurt. Well 9 months later she brought the car back and thanked me for letting her use it, She bought a new used car and ended her bad streak on cars being totaled.

And for me I bought 1 new truck in my life and drove it 16 years and over 300.000 miles without a scratch. Bandit
