any of you fellas ever had this happen ?..my sara spent 800 bux in vet bills on roger, a 3 yr old mouser , barn tom cat,,..we think roger got his neck rung by a coyote , ripped the hide off his lower neck and sternum ,, got very infected before we discovered his wrath , he is lucky to be alive ,, and he wants to live , and receives his medical care very well ,,. my sara told me she would rather try to save roger than have a diamond ring ,, that was good enuf for me ,

When it comes to my animals I will pay it they are my family and I take care of them had to spent 309 on my dog last summer when he got poisned and then he had a tumer and had to spend 300 more luckily it was not cancer said it was caused by a foreign body .

I tend to take a more...well lets just say different perspective. I will not spend a fortune on an animal that could be put to better use on a human I care about. Having said that, the daughter is an vet tech at the local ER. She sees it all the time.

I have spent that much and a lot more on a cat that showed up on our door step years ago. I know some people don't care much for cats. but I will do my best to keep my cats healthy. As they get older sometimes there isn't much you can do anymore, and need to have them put down. Hope your car recovers. Stan

I agree with vscummins, I had spent more money on my 13 year old cat in the 9 years i had her for medical problems than I spent on my horse who is 31 and I own her for 17 years! But when it comes to a pet you do everything you can to help them there's nothing but love with a pet. A Pet is your best friend more faithful and trustful than most humans? Lol, I also saw in tv that cats have taken over dogs as the number 1 pet, it was a really good show about how cats adapt and can survive on there own anywhere. Here's mine, I think she's about 4.

It seems to be a regular occurrence every two months around here. Midnight trip of ten miles to the Animal Hospital with one of the furballs. Leave four to six hours later, five hundred to a thousand dollars poorer. They never get sick during the day, always wait till between nine and eleven at night. I have spent around seventy thousand dollars in the last seven years on them keeping them healthy. They have been worth it. Get more love from them than I ever got from that old witch I was married to for thirty years.

Sorry it is a cat. Ya I have to many of them and well I will not pay to keep one alive. They are nice to have but there are limits to what I spend my $$ on. As I write this I have one on my lap and 2 on the floor next to me.

Ahhhh, the cat story..... If I wasn't so tired.....

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, a handsome prince (me) had a cat. This cat was an excellent mouser, but just a stray stay outside cat. The cat came home one day with it's front leg mostly torn off by a mole trap from the neighboring kingdom. The handsome prince was all set to end it's misery when the prince's oldest daughter saw it, so much for a cheap fix. So to end it's torment, the hansome prince's daughter's, not the cat's, he agreed to take it, the cat not the daughter, to the vet for it's final visit. When they got there, the very helpful vet, in full view of the prince's daughter said "oh, no need to put it down, we can fix it"! Yippy said the prince, for how many gold coins of the realm? 50 pieces of silver says the vet! Well, ok says the prince, for that price a happy daughter is worth it. So some stitches, some bandages, some medicine, and the handsome prince and his merry daughter take the cat home, less the 50 pieces of silver of course. But the next day all is not well in the kingdom. The cat is now a very ill cat, so the handsome prince tells the very sad daughter the the cat must take it's final trip to the vet, and off they go. At the vets however, there is yet another difference of opinion on the condition of the cat. Once again, IN FULL VIEW OF THE HANDSOME PRINCE'S DAUGHTER, the vet says, "no need to put this cat down, we'll remove the leg and all will be well in the kingdom! How much says the handsome prince? 150 pieces of silver, but that includes the overnight stay to make sure all is well". The handsome princes daughter is histerical and begging the prince "daddy PALEEEEEEEZ don't kill the pretty kity"! Ok, "for the good of the kingdom" says the prince. The next day the pretty kitty comes home to the kingdom and all is well. The next day however, things are once again bad in the kingdom. The pretty kitty is now laying in it's bed, but is stiff as a board, we're talking grab it by the tail and use it to flip the royal pancakes stiff as a board. So reluctantly the handsome prince once again informs the beautiful princess the the pretty kitty must take it's last trip to the vet. The vet, altho sympathetic to the princes plight, and ever shrinking stack of pieces of silver, choses once again to say "this is a very sick kitty, but I think I can save it. No says the prince, there is no more silver in the castle's dungeon, we must end the poor animal's suffering (the prince's, well, and the pretty kitty's). The very helpfull vet says "well, its such an interesting case I'll treat the cat at no cost to the kingdom just to see if I can save it". Ok says the prince, if you will do it without further depleting the kingdom's gold reserves. So for 3 days the vet administers to the needs of the pretty kitty, then sends the kitty home with the handsome prince and his princess. For more than a week the princess and the royal queen administer iv drugs to the pretty kitty, all the while the kitty remains perfectly stiff with no movement other than the eyes. After about a week the first movement is seen. After 10 days the pretty kitty is moving about the kingdom by pulling itself with it's one remaining front leg. after about 3 weeks or so, all is once again well in the kingdom. The cat is now even a favorite of the handsome prince. All of the kingdom's subjects enjoy watching the pretty kitty deal with the missing front leg. When trying to burry it's leavings the shoulder of the missing leg goes like crazy while the pretty kitty looks on in amazment that the droppings are not being covered. This is a source of great entertainmemt for the kingdom's subjects, but doom is on the horizon. One day the handsome prince comes home to find a letter in the royal mail from the vet. Seems in her excitement over saving the kingdom's pretty kitty she forgot her commitment to do the rescue for free, and now wants 1500 pieces of silver. The handsome prince is angry and threatens to have the vet drawn and quartered. The vet, realizing her error, relents on the bill. However, from that day forward the pretty kitty is never seen in the kingdom again. To this day noone knows what happened to the pretty kitty. No, the prince did not have the pretty kitty beheaded secretly.

And that is the story of the prince and the kitty!

Yep, once spent over $1,600 on a stray that showed up at my house. I'll keep the story short: few weeks later, run over by car, crushed pelvis. Emergency surgery. Fast forward a few months: cat gets pg, can't deliver kittens because of the crushed pelvis. Emergency surgery. Both of these occurred on holiday weekends, of course.

So, why didn't I deal with it the way a lot of you would have---and like I would have, left to my own devices? Because I had a 10-year-old girl crying in my ear. Believe me, I didn't have $1,600 to spend on a stray cat. And as soon as she healed, she disappeared. Never saw her again.

Spent 750 on our cat a few years back. Thought I would never do that in my life time. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.

had old barn cat, one of my favorites, was working on a piece of equipment with my daughter and she sees this old cat draging itself along with just 1 or two front feet. it backend looked totally destroyed maybe by getting runover? amanda said, dad your gonna have to shoot that cat to put it out of its misery. okay ill do it when im finished here. got done, couldnt find it, thought it would drasg itself somewhere and die. bout a week later it come walking in the barn pretty good, couldnt believe it, must be 9 lives

Have a cat that survived a skunk attack as a kitten. (Was 1 of 2 that the skunk didn't get to) Now it follows me around everywhere. Was up on a small ladder doing some work on a window and when I was ready to step down, it was sitting on the bottom step. While up on a ladder last fall, a good 10-12 feet up, the same cat tried to jump up the side of the house to get to me, TWICE, the third time it made it to the angled drain pipe and then proceeded to check out following it up to the roof. My sister said if she didn't see it she wouldn't have believed it. I can run around a building and it will follow me running behind me, once up to 3 times before I quit. Must be where the saying "crazy cat" comes from.

My SIL had an older beagle torn up in a coyote attack (I think its the 3rd time this dog got it but by far the worst) and it was around 2k to get this thing all sewn up. Had a great dane bit on the nose in the same attack, not bad but enough to make it paranoid of everything.

the wife saw your post,,,this is Holly,14 years old,,,we have a 14 year old goat too,and a 13 year old dog,,,I dont know the vet totals,,,she wont tell me...lol

We have a 2 year old Hangin Tree Borderr Collie cross pup, that as of now we have about $5000 tied up in. We think he has Dysautonomia. Normally affects 2 and under dogs that have played in fresh turn earth, right after a thaw.
Thought I had him going good last week. This week, bad diarrhea, won't eat again, and a plugged up nose.

Been there with a dog. 2 ACL surgeries and some $3500 dollars later he's still here and a family member. Of course a .40 bullet would have been cheaper but the wife and kids would have none of that.

My wife took her two house cats to the vet for their shots and whatever last summer. I was looking over the vet bill and it was nearly $700 for that visit! About half what it cost to preg check and vaccinate my 175 momma cows! Informed the wife the cats are skipping the vet visit this year.

LOVED the story jonf

A few years ago we had a preggo kitty dropped off taht had 5 babies, 3 girls and 2 boys. A few months later momma got hit in road but babies were old enough to make it own their own. Before we could we could muster up the $ to get them fixed they were old enough to do what cats do. Count was now up to 17. A few days after the new brewed were born 1 of the (now) daddy cats came in dragging a rear leg. Was gonna go the .22 route how ever SWMBO said "nooooooo, have the vet make sure leg is broke and if is have them put it down!". $80 for x-ray "Yup it's broke" he says. So I says " How much for the shot?" "$75" "OK give him a shot and I'll take him home and bury him on the ground he was born to ( I seen a BIG dumpster out back). Vet made counter offer, "I'll fix him for nothing and sell him at my store" "Sounds good to me since will make SWMBO happier"
Ended up finding a local place that helps people get animals fixed for a donation. I scraped up a couple hundred and got the remaining 16 fixed. Farrier took 2. 2 came up missing, 9 gone in road. Still have 4 out there.
When they fix feral cats around here they clip a left ear.

Looks exactly like our "Howard" who has been missing since Labor Day week 2013 from 61447 zip code. Friendly, neutered, 9 yrs. old at the time. If that's him, keep him as he looks happy.but would like to hear from you. [email protected]

(quoted from post at 01:43:40 03/03/15) Have a cat that survived a skunk attack as a kitten. (Was 1 of 2 that the skunk didn't get to) Now it follows me around everywhere.

I have a cat, similar, named Shadow. Showed up at our house, was so small he slept in my wife's purse. Comes when I call, follows me around outside, checks to make sure I'm fixing equipment right, sometimes to the point I have to put him in the house. By the way except for fixing him has been very low maintenance.

Well I can't say much as I did spend $ 200-300 ? on our outside dog several years back. Still don't know what exactly happened but her side was torn into and got infected.
I really got off cheap compared to many.

My sister has spent a small fortune on her cats too.

I lost my shop cat "Whitey" in an accident at the neighbors. Nobodies fault. I took my Whitey to 2 vets. Spent $600 and could not save him. Buried him in a little wood box wrapped in a blanket and dug a 6 foot hole(backhoe). This was almost five months ago.
I was quite depressed for a month. A guy dropped off a new kitten 2 weeks ago. Very nice kitten and we are starting to get along. Her name is Suzie. I also have 2 cats at home that are part of the family.

I found him on the internet I dont even know where the pic came from would be nice if it was him and you got him back
