One easy question: is my 1951 farmall super A negative or positive ground.The diagram shows it to be negative because the negative cable hooks to the starter post and the positive connects to the tractor. Thanks

That would be a positive ground. The description you gave is for a positive ground system.

when the pos. cable is connected to the ground as with all these old 6 volt tractors that came from factory thats pretty much the going thing... 6 volt = pos ground.

Starter post is a saddle sw thats where the neg terminal cable goes. Positive cable went to batt case when new where tne batt box bolts to the frame up by the lid area. Its best to run the ground direct to the frame unless you have removed the batt box and cleaned all surfaces where it bolt to tractor frame.
