so I was thinking do you half to pay taxes on those tent buildings you can buy they call them portable buildings but they anchor to the ground I know if its a shed on skids you don't half to in my area! Thinking about something cheap for storage anyone have one do you like it?

I do not have to pay ANY property taxes on a hoop building here in Iowa. Even thought I have them anchored to the ground they considered a temporary structure here.

In some states you have to pay personal property tax on them.

No tax on mine. I have had it for 3 years and thought it was great to keep things out of the weather until this Winter. Now it looks like a big M after I could no longer keep the snow off it. :(

They are "tensioned fabric structures".There are several manufacturers of them .They are NOT ALL EQUAL! The 'WeatherPort' brand is the 'original',invented in cold high altitude deep snow Gunnison Colorado in 1968.They are now made 10 miles from my home at Olathe and Delta CO. I worked for them for 10+ years, did alot of R/D work for them.I 'designed' the 100'x210' 'Olympic Superstore' that stood at the Salt Lake Olympics. In my opinion,WeatherPort is the best in the business.

Brian806,
My biggest concern living in the country is theft. My county calls itself the meth capital of Indiana. Our meth people like to rent in the country so they can do business away from others. When they are not dealing they are stealing.

I wouldn't put anything outside, in a tent. It would be gone next morning.

Brother had a tent shed. It blew away in a strong wind. Indiana is tornado alley. Not to mention, the sun will deteriorate tents.

I've had a small to medium sized one for about 12 years now, I use it as a run in shed for the cattle in the winter. It was designated as a "garage" - 32' long x 14' high x 16' wide, I think. I opted for the ribs 3' OC rather than 4" due to the snow load here. It's worked out very well for us. I left the end that supposed to be closed open, that's their entrance, I use the door end for my access, mainly to enter with the tractor to clean it out. I do rake the snow off it if it gets too deep - have done that 6 times this winter. I have corral panels on the inside to protect the fabric and ribs from the cattle. It is in a spot that is fairly well protected from the wind, never had a concern about that. Takes some care and maintenance, but is probably the best money I ever spent on a structure...

Can someone post links to what you are talking about? I've seen all sorts of things and some of them don't seem like they's last a week let alone through a winter.

Thanks NEBeef, those are sturdier than I was thinking of. I have seen the big fabric covered Quonset looking buildings, a local goat farmer had a big one that he has his entire dairy goat operation in it. It's pretty nice, the rest of his farm is trashed but that's in good shape.

We don't have to pay taxes on them up here, I have 3 of them, one for a tractor, one for the boat as a winter cover and one to store equipment. I clean the snow off them after every snow fall. Had one partly collapse once when I didn't clean it off and we got rain.
