Wow the Oliver 1850 row crop, Oliver 1650, Massey 285 look like real bargains.

The 4WD Duetz Allis looks like it might be a good value too if the hp is what I think it is and 4WD.

Traditional Farmer,

I was at the sale too. I thought the Olivers were great bargains. I think there were 600 or more bidders registered. There was so much interest in the vegetable equipment that I don't think there were too many bargains on that stuff. Many buyers from several states away.

Oliver prices are very regional. That's about what the olivers would do here. We have no dealer support for them. Deere is king here. IH is increasing.

I was surprised they didn't bring more in a way but
farming especially in that area has gone to a lot bigger tractors and bigger equipment not many medium size left.I really had to hold back not to bid on the 1650 gas but I just bought a good 1550 gas and have way more tractors than I can reasonably use now.Was surprised the 8N Ford with the recently overhauled engine only bought around $1100 those have really gone in the tank.

The Oliver prices are about right even if there is area dealer support. An 1850 would have to have very good paint, pretty fresh tires, and not 10,000 hours to get to the 5000 dollar mark or above. Some vegetable crop farm tractors are not the nicest either. Not so much the hardship that quite a few dairies face but it seems a fair amount of veg crop guys are adamant about outside investments. I've seen guys that if you look at their operation you would have thought they just scrape by but in fact they have a huge investment portfolio. As long as the tractors do the work the appearance is not so important.

It looks like the large vegetable production farms in Eastern Va are vanishing. Second year in a row that a large operation of this type has closed in this area, and there were never a lot of these in operation. Grain farming is replacing vegetables in many of these cases.
Whoever bought the Oliver 1850's and 1650 can resell them at a decent profit, maybe using eBay or Craigslist to reach a broader market.

I you guys think the Olivers were a bargain there just come on farther south. WHEN they show up at auction in these parts they go for less. Never was that many sold new here in West Tennessee and no one wants a used one.
