spring tractor projects

Anyone have a spring tractor project to start? I have a Farmall A utility that's been sitting in the barn a couple of years that has a home-made belly mower on it. The builder used pulleys too small and the blade tips break the sound barrier and pull the tractor down to nothing easily. I learned that the tractor originally belonged to the State of Illinois, had a sickle mower on it and was used to mow right-of-ways. I can see an orange/yellow paint under the red and thinking about converting it back to its original form with a sickle mower.

I've got that Oliver 500 in progress. The hood, grille and fenders are at the body shop. I need to get the rest of it cleaned up,repaired and painted.

Need to put a clutch in my M5 MM, fix the pto and a little on the hydraulics. Have to build some splitting stands first though.

I found a soft rear tire on the Massey 35 this morning, it is calcium loaded and maybe I just need a new valve, but if it needs a tube I will wait till spring if I can because I don't think I can change a tire that is this cold and stiff. Not the kind of spring project I was hoping for, but that's life.

Not yet but should. The Case SC needs electrical work, Farmall H needs tune up and , W4 needs carb and valves(minimum) checked. The list goes on.

"...blade tips break the sound barrier"...? I'm trying to imagine what that's like. Can you describe the effect?

Here is a Super AI w/ mower.

I plan to finish normal tuning on MH44 EFI, then work on cold start settings next winter.

The Farmall H is getting new rear tires.

The CCLS valve on 6610 does not work as fast as I want, plan to see if there is an adjustment for the LS portion.

I bought a mower like that. It is amazing what a pulley 3/4 of an inch too small can do to an engine. I ordered a new pulley from the factory and it made a mower out of it. Mine weren't breaking the sound barrier. Just denting it a little.

Got an H Farmall that I bought on a consignment auction a year ago and it never has run quite as smooth as it should.

I've gone through everything else, carb, ignition, etc., even checked the valve lash. Next is to check for an intake leak. It also has a serious growl in the transmission, but if I can get it running right I'll just mount my log splitter on it permanently. The pump on the splitter runs off the PTO.

My other H with the loader on it has been in the family over 50 years. If I can buy another healthy H or M for a reasonable price, I'll swap the loader over and restore the H that's been in the family.

I'm not sure that is really occurring. Assuming a 4ft diameter cut, it would require a rotational speed greater than 6,000 rpm for the blade tips to approach the sound barrier. That is if my math is correct.

I'm currently painting up an H for a neighbor. Im also finishing up my 65. I need to fix a the steering on my super 90 and get the 180 up to snuff before haying.

I have an Oliver 77 I'm in the process of rebuilding when I find time then in a couple months I have a few tune ups and oil changes to do

I'm finishing up a Case VC w/ special 36" rear wheels , I think I can get it done in time for the show in Tulare Ca this April.

The tips are moving so fast they are deafening similar to the sound made by a turbo-prop. Both ear plugs & muffs are needed. The clippings are super fine and tend to clog the radiator if a screen isn't used. The original builder made the deck out of 1/4" plate so the tractor has a very low center of gravity - LOL. I bought it off one of my daughters after she got a JD-955.

Gotta replace a wheel bearing in one tractor, rebuild an oil pump in another, do the belly pump on the M, new rears for the 1206 and I have 4 weeks to be done with all that. Plus I have to get the square baler fixed too. Then I'm out of the game for about 6 weeks after they do my knee. 2 of my sons are going to do spring field work for me. This knee replacement has me thinking about throwing in the towel on farming. Really discouraging. Just going to go nuts having to have others do stuff for me.

Was going to get brakes, governor and genny working this spring however now get to tear engine down due to what I believe is a dropped sleeve. Needed re-ringing any ways. 43 Ford 2N

I bought this two weeks ago. It was in a barn fire. Got nasty smoke stains all over it but didn't hurt it otherwise.
The 3 point isn't working right. Not sure if it is a bad pump or what yet. I will get the lift working this spring and use it on the bush hog this summer. Some day I will take it apart and rehab it but not this year.
It runs good.

Wow - is that ever nice! Mine is just an AI, My daughter did put a water pump on it as it kept overheating on her with the siphon cooling.

Any chance of you posting a photo of the PTO driveshaft mounting setup at the back?

I have a similar project in the works (but NOT an "I" version) and am missing parts back there.

THANKS in advance!

Here are some more specs if it can determine the fps speed. It is a 60" deck, three 22" blades with 4" pulleys driven by a 9" pulley off the tractor PTO. No tachometer but I'd guesstimate @ about 1500 engine RPMs. All I know it is way, way too loud.
