I'm on my way to Napoleon Oh to deliver some Campbell's soup and I'm cruizin up Oh 31 cross country. My time is tight on this load, so I'm tryin to run all my hours and still get parked before I run out. So I have about 15 min left and I'm starting to get worried, when a small gas station/restaurant with truck parking comes up. Perfect I think! But which one is it? None other than the one I got thrown out of for putting hot chocolate in my coffee last summer. Lol. Guess I have all night to decide whether to risk trying to mix again or go with straight coffee tomorrow. And will it make a difference if I use my own refillable mug? Probly be too stressed over it all to sleep tonight.

Man Jon ,, That Sounds like You got Trobles LOl... You better pullem up and Park Him and pull the Yeller switch,, and git you some shut eye ,,maybe thangs will be better in the morning ,, don't worry about whether the liliputans like chocolate or not or how they take it ...

Are you serious? Thrown out for putting hot chocolate in your coffee? How backward are these people anyway? Oh well, sleep tight and don't worry about it. Ohhh, wait a minute! Was this the joke of the day?

Don't feel bad Jon, I'm stuck in Atlanta. Company won't let anyone leave. 2 to 4" of snow and city has closed the xways. Just got here from Louisville, 3.5 hrs left I can drive. Could make to 3 of our other terminals and they said roads are too bad. Told the dispatcher I was from Mich. and this was nothing. Last Monday left the house with 17" of unplowed snow, 30 to 40 mph winds and 17° below zero. Asked what the big deal was. They said just because you think you can drive in it doesn't mean we can let you leave and make everyone else stay.
Are you in Kenton? Valero/restaurant/car dealership?

Our company will shut us down sometimes but often leaves it at driver discretion.

Last night the Dallas meet and turn where the Dallas driver comes 1/2 way and meets our driver then turn and go back home did not run because our local drivers were scared to run it and get stuck out on the road.

Then this morning a team that runs out of Salt Lake City showed up at our terminal with the Dallas load. Truck and trailers were covered with ice from road spray.
They asked him where they wanted to go now and the driver says give me the load going back to Dallas.

Driver was telling us we would never make it in the north west since we were scared of a little snow and ice.

No joke, the lady actually asked me to leave because I was going to put hot chocolate in a 24oz cup. The 24oz cups are too tall to fit in the machine and won't fill all the way. I only wanted a little so I was just going to tip the cup a little and get some, then fill it with coffee. She wasn't having it tho and said it would be a good idea if I left, so I did.

We do not need 1 inch.
All we need if for the weather guesser to say it "MIGHT" snow tomorrow and all the schools will be closed.

Freezing rain is our biggest problem. We very seldom get snow but a rain that freezes on bridges happens every few years.
They try spreading sand as we have no salt or plows but eventually just give up and close all bridges.
Around here you go no where if you can not cross a bridge so the whole town shuts down.

I drove for Avery International "Fasson".
One plant is in Peachtree City..just south of Atlanta..
Spent more time walking up to and telling drivers to "only use ONE FOOT", then they got along much better..!!
They sore some reason use BOTH feet and when they get nervous they hit the Brake before they hit the Gas..!!
Pulled an MT trailer to Dalton, they were going to be closed for 3 days, so dragged that MT wagon back to PTC and traded for a Loaded one and headed to Quakertown Pa..
Never minded Ice, as long as I was Loaded (the trailer anyway)..!!!!
If the road is REALLY Slick..pour some STP on the 5th wheel...(and back off the steering axle brakes)..

I cut South from 40 (in Tx) to avoid a snow/Ice storm..got out around Alamongordo and they Shut the Durned road..!!!
Down there, they just close the road and wait for the snow/Ice to go away...!!!!

What IS exciting is the be heading West, out of Flagstaff on Black Ice (about every week) loaded and NOT be able to touch the brakes until you get below the Frost-line and that usually was at "Devil Dog Rd"..heading toward Winslow, Az..

When you explain it that way, it does sound a little like going into a bar, buying a beer and trying to fill the glass from the bourbon bottle. The drink prices might be the same, but the size of one drink is a lot smaller than the other. If you want both drinks you would still have to buy two drinks, LOL.

We were supposed to have Snowmageddon here in Central Iowa this morning. I woke up to a light dusting and got the kids ready for school. They went out to wait for the bus and I was doing my normal routine and all the sudden here come the kids walking back in the house, my nine year old informs me that they have been waiting hours and the bus isn't coming. It was only ten minutes but the bus is usually here at 7:25 on the dot so I check to see if we had a late start, nope, they canceled education for the day. We ended up with three whole inches.

Jon, a lot of people have never heard of Mocha, I like it too. That's why I always carry TWO thermos's in my truck, one for Coffee and one for Hot Chocolate. That way you can have them individually or mixed - 3 separate choices. LOL

Doc :>)

Three Inches ???

I can understand shutting the schools down for THREE FEET of snow, but three INCHES???!

I've been in Atlanta when it snowed. I stayed in the motel until the snow melted - no way I was going on the roads with the locals that were running into each other or into the bar pits.

Couldn't remember if it was Kenton or Mt Victory. Typed Mt V first then changed it. Think long, think wrong. Go with first thought. Go by there a lot on then way to Columbus out of Detroit. Have never stopped though. Run through Jumpin Jim's once in a while. Its usually about 2am when I do.

Yeah, but sometimes that truckstop/gas station
coffee is a little harsh. If its good coffee I like
it black.

"Good" coffee? My favorite oxymoron is "Good coffee". No way in the world do those 2 words belong together. And you know, my son and SWMBO totally disagree! Maybe a few others, too!

All it takes is a wet road and 32 degrees to make driving bad. Some places aren't equipped to keep all the roads cleared and salted. If one bus ends up in a ditch or gets hit by a car that skids on ice there will be a major outcry about why they'd allow kids to go to school in that bad weather. Also what if a kid slips and bumps his head getting off the bus at the school? Society demands 0 accidents or they'll sue! Many places accept 0 risk. Flip side is if they call off school because of predicted heavy snow and it doesn't happen--they're criticized for that call too.

A couple of weeks ago, Syracuse NY closed schools two days in advance on a forecast, of cold. And we all thought Syracusans were used to tough winters. But everyone is getting more candy-butted these days. Back in the day you hardly ever had a "snow day" but nowadays they close schools on a forecast of cold two days out, or like in your case, on a forecast that was greater than three inches of snow.
