Cheap rubber fuel line

I try to keep small fuel line on hand for various things. I was
getting low while I was at Napa so I bought some new. 3/8 or
something close to it.

I needed to replace the line on my chore pickup. That Napa
line is the cheapest junk I have ever seen. It is so flimsy that it
will actually collapse on itself if you try to bend it into a gradual
arc - like a 180 within 18 inches. We are talking between the
pump and the carburetor where where is pressure (it isn't more
than about five psi at any given time). I was having trouble with
it starving last night so I pulled the line off the carb, turned on
the key, and fiddled just a little bit. The line has only been on
about three weeks. I got some unused out and it felt just the
same (I thought it felt flimsy when I bought it). Does anyone
make decent line? Don't say USA made - this is!

Like a lot of things nowadays, you have to ask for and pay for premium, when it was and should still be considered the normal.

I bought some of that for my tractor a year or so ago. Put it on, and it DISINTIGRATED within about 15 minutes! Had "Fuel Injection Grade" stamped all over it....

I replaced the fuel line on my tractor a couple weeks ago when I replaced the tank sending unit. I used Gates Barricade heavy duty line. It is costly, about $1.98 a foot. I had some Gates heavy duty injection hose already on the tractor(about 6 years old) but due to the sending unit leaking and soaking the outside of the hose and making it soft I decided to replace it.

I had Gates brand fall apart in three days, melted like butter on the inside. 10% corn gas

Did you get the old style rubber hose for fuel injection or did you get the new hose with plastic lined for ethanol fuel injection. I put the plastic lined fuel injection on my tractors for several years ago and no problems. It cost more than the plain rubber hose.

The hose i got from NAPA otherday is a braided rubber hose. All depends on what the store has and you could have got hose thats intended for another use people at counter do make mistakes.

I buy fuel line at my local Federated Parts store good price and never had a problem with it,quality hasn't change in the 20 years as far as I can see.
NAPA in my area has the highest prices.

A couple of years ago... The commercial parts guy at my local oreillys told me that the standard fuel line made by gates is now classified as a vapor line. It's no longer suitable for fuel use. I never checked into it after he said that but from what I'm reading on here, he may have been telling me the truth.

You may have got the end of a roll it tends to do that on the small end of the roll... If it was not round and smashed oval it was a end piece...

You should be able to bend in a 4" U and see no issues until you bring it closer together...

The last roll I got from advance auto is labeled "Autocraft" its robust and holds it shape well... Its looks to be the best reinforced standard fuel line I have ever used...

There are many grades of 'hose' made for different applications. In this case you must specify ' for all fuels' or for gasoline use only. One step better is 'rated for fuel injection use. Then hope the counter person knows what you are talking about. Have them look it up just to be sure.
