Forecast was for early fog, wanted to get pictures of that! Got up before the sun, no fog, but the sun rise was excellent anyway! This guy just happened to land perfectly for my camera!

Here's another one for you. Full grown Screech
Owl in 2010.

Barred owl? That is awesome! Used to be common here when I was a kid. Not anymore, sadly. I was surprised one night last fall, was sitting out in the hot tub with the jets off on a dead quiet night and one of those things let loose a shriek in the tree line a couple hundred feet away. Darn near stopped my heart. They have a strange call.

Here's a pic of a little Saw-Whet owl that roosted
in my barn a couple of years ago. He hung around for
a few days, and wasn't overly shy. They only grow to
be around 6 inches tall at most.

Wish I had thought to post my owl picture. Well,
not the actual owl, but owl evidence. I was
driving near my home a few nights ago when there
was a very loud "Whump!" on my windshield.
Instantaneously the driver side of the windshield
was covered with this indescribable goo that
would remind you of a rotten egg. A large rotten
egg. Based on some bad experience I'd had with a
barn owl that camped out in my workshop once upon
a time, I pretty quickly surmised that I'd been
bombed by a hooter of some sort. Didn't know
they could do that on the fly.

I bet the rat/mouse population was reduced while he was there.

Great photo !! I'd love to get pics of a barred Owl. Or a Saw whet. I get lots of photos of horned owls at my place, but that's it.
I have a serious jones for photography. Here are some of mine:
My owl photos

Jeff B-WOW! I had never seen an owl, with my camera along, until just before Thanksgiving 2014! Sunrise is when I have been seeing the barred owls!
