Well, don't look like straw...looks like hay. And I never saw such a gadget but if it involves me standing on it and throwing bales I would be looking for a new plan.

I found out it's called a stooker. From Saskatchewan. They have newer ones that are automatic.

Did lots of that when I was a pup, and all day long for many days on end.

Both hay and straw - straw was a cakewalk, as the bales were so light compared to the hay bales.

Yes, I was on the stooker, not on the tractor!
That's how I earned my "spending money" as a teenager.

I've found out that they allow tough hay to dry in the stack and it sheded rain.

that's a ten bale stooker. once you get the 10th bale on you kick a lever and It dumps the stook then you start again. that one has wheels on it, but most had just skids on them. stooked for the nieghbours when I was a teenager and still use it a bit for a few square bales. then when time to haul bales had to load them by hand on a wagon and haul to the stack. crazy hot job in the summer . allied had an automatic six bale stooker that you just pulled behind the baler and it did the stook it self.

loaded with an attachment on the front end loader. Most people used the FEL to place the stook on the flat wagons and restacked as normal.........at least eliminated most of the lifting. Some used dump trucks, just dumping the stooks into the truck helter-skelter and shuttling them to the elevator at the barn.

Yes a stooker, Allied made automatic ones but also some Zimmerman guy in the states.
