Doing my part

To be as self sufficient as possible. Ordered all of my garden seeds, a couple more apple trees, a cherry tree to replace one that died, another heartnut tree to replace one that died, and a bunch more raspberry slips. Wanted to order a few more things, but had to hold up. I set a limit on what I spend each year on new stuff. Bought all new seed for the taters this year, so that took a chunk outta the budget. Have to agree with a poster below though. The 18 (actually 19 now) trillion debt and the health care costs are going to are going to destroy us all.

The wife has more seeds than 10 people could ever use in a lifetime. She belongs to several seed exchanges. She's got a three ring binder so full of little packages of seeds the darned thing must be six inches thick. She got three more shipments yesterday, one from Denmark. She has some coming from Greece too I think.

We are doing our part here. Got spot ready a couple weeks ago for taters in middle of February and getting seed lined up for spring. We plant sweet corn in the middle of March if it is dry enough. Then green beans middle of April and okra middle of May.
Other stuff whenever we can get it in the ground.
Colossus peas in July. Sorghum for syrup in middle of June.
Can't wait for it to warm up so I can get in the garden. This economy scares the stuffin out of me. Got lots of store bought canned goods stored away also.

I just pruned my apple and cherry trees. I cut up the pruning with my band saw, I've already sold three grocery brown paper bags full for barbeque at $5 each. I'll see how they go next summer at farmer's market. Citiots buy all kinds of stuff.
Last summer I had a lot of extra 5 gal pickle pails I was going to burn. Took them over to neighbors horse farm and filled them with road apples. Sold them, pail and all for $5
