Ford 3400 Utility Tractor

I have a Ford 3400 tractor with a worn out upper steering column bushing. It is rubber material with metal insert. The metal insert is perforated from top to bottom. I have purchased a couple of after market bushing assemblies but they will not work on the steering shaft on my tractor. The steering shaft is small at the top where the steering wheel goes on the shaft but it is larger down the shaft where this assembly fits. The hole in the metal insert of the assembly is not large enough to slide over this part of the shaft. The after market metal insert also is not perforated and I do not know if that makes a difference. My tractor, according to the model number was manufactured March, 1974. Yesterday's tractor associate could not help with anything but after market like I already have. Any suggestions where I might locate this assembly? Thanks in advance.

First; I suggest you check with the 'Ford' Forum. Second; are you saying the steering shaft doesn't have bearings ?

It is possible your steering gear has been changed out to a newer syle.
If you could post a photo of yours we may be able to ID it for you.
But as said, post it on the Ford board. More folks there know the nuances of those older models.
