Major Muscle On CL!!

Yea they sound neat BUT they do love the fuel. One of my customers has a 2255 and everytime ya turn around it is nursen at the fuel tank. When we used it on the chopper about every three hours was feeding time .

There was a 2-180 FWA sitting along the road near here for quite a while. I don't know if it sold yet or not. They were asking $8000 for that one.

Cat 3208 were not a great choice of power plants for tractors.
I think they call them "throw aways" because they are not sleeved ?

I've heard of the 3208 being of the throw away type, as I drove either of the Ford L8000 tandems we had at one outfit, both had 13 speed transmissions, but were not fuller road rangers as I recall.

They did ok, but given how loud they were in that style cab, I have to wonder what one would be like in a tractor like the ones shown in this thread.

I know they run backwards, not very well, but stall that truck on a slope and let it roll backwards in gear, did that briefly a few times, thankfully no mess due to it, be interesting if it had oil bath filtration.

That looks like a 4--180 which means it may have been turned up some.
I have the Oliver version -- 2255--It was rated at 140 horse but I have been told none left the factory at less then 160. Mine has the 3150 motor.
Yes it has a short wheelbase so it can turn quick and keeps you on your toes going across a field. But it rides pretty well.
They do pull good. I haven't made mine really pull hard yet. Just don't need to.

I think it was Davpal who asked me about it last fall. Wondered if I knew what they were asking. I don't know if he ever went and looked at it or not.

t is still a 2-180 whether 4 wheel drive or not.the 4-180 is the big tractors that articulate or turn in the center.

Those engines got a bad rep from trucks when they turbo'd them and ran them up to 250+hp. At 180 hp they run a long time and are good engines.

I saw my share of 3208's working at a Ford dealer in the mid 80's. They were a very popular marine engine also.
If you wanted a gut less engine that was hard on fuel and ran forever get a 3208 and live with it. You went to tinkering with it to try and curve the gut less part and you were asking for trouble.

Now you want to talk throw away Cats. The 1100 series the 3208 replaced was a throw away because finding OEM oversized parts for them was like trying to find hens teeth.
