Lol. back when I had my shop I was seen wearing it at the cafe across the street during lunch.

I'm really impressed that you guys are able to limit that to just tools.

For me it's the bolt, nut, spring or any other small part that I set down thinking.... I'll put this here so I know where it's at!

I'm cleaning up my shop, and its kind of fun, because I'm finding all kinds of stuff! "Oh, yeah, fixing this was on the honey-do list- wonder how long ago that was?"

ME and my dad are NOTORIOUS for using a small tool, then sliding it in our right rear pocket, then wandering around looking for it.

The kicker is that the one looking, will soon get the other person in the shop involved looking, and unless that person spots the tool in the others britches. It WILL NOT be found until we sit down at the end of the day........ :

What I really enjoy is trying to find that special small part that you put somewhere so you would know where it was and it would not be lost and now you can no longer remember where that place is. Tom

I am way more organized than that here, But I have been hiring High school boys for the past 15 years to help pick and clean. I recruit from a couple local school Vo-Ag classes and a tech school near here. I have 2 working here now, they are great help with the cleaning and picking part and they help with the hoods and this and that of repair, plus they learn a lot on the way. They all seem to enjoy working here as part time help, and that is all that I want is part time, it helps out a lot. It also helps to have "designated" places for all the tools, so as they put them away it's in the "same" place each time, I am strict about that and they soon see why.

I have done that too.... Usually for me though, it has to be small enough that I can get my fingers ALL the way around it, so that it is "hidden"... :)

You got that right!!!!

Last week I put a new round bale out for the horses. Had a fairly good sized knife in my pocket to cut strings with. Reached for the knife and it wasn't there. Figured it had fallen down in the hay. Kept looking for it as the horses ate down that bale. Made them clean every smidgeon of the hay up, but no knife.

Now I'm thinking I must have set it down somewhere. Been looking for 3 days, still no knife. GRRR. It was a favorite and I've had it over 20 yrs.

Same thing happens with tools in the kitchen. I think they have secret feet and run away when yer not lookin'. LOL

Wow.Every one of these responces are 'spot on'!!Except I've never worn my welding hood to lunch!Although I have looked for my glasses and found them on my face.....

I had done some work on their stainless range hood and table, so I just said I was back to finnish.

Well, there are no pictures of the event, so I put it in the catagory with UFO and big foot sightings.

A good majority of my time on the chart would show (cruising yt forums) at least in the last few months. Computer is in small office in back.

I have two benches in the old shop. I would look for one thing on one of the benches, didn't see it then go look on the other bench and still didn't see it, then go back to the first bench and there it is plain as day. I think someone put it there when I wasn't looking lol.

We had a neighbor that had tons of stuff all over the yard and every shed was crammed full. When he needed something, he'd either borrow it from the neighbors or go to town and buy a new one. He probably had 3-4 sets of everything, but it would take too long to find it.

He borrowed Dad's corn planter plates for 3 years in a row before he accidentally found his own plates!

I guess this is true no matter what the age! I been working on tractors for my whole life and its happened to me as long as I can remember and I'm only 17! Oh well I usually run across it later

I'll occasionally flip my welding helmet up, forget it's still on my head, and catch the lip of the helmet on something I've ducked under or bent over. No harm done, but it startles the heck out of me for the half-second it takes to realize what just happened...

Or, I'll pick up a sheet metal or wood screw from the ground so that I won't step on it later and stick it in my pocket. I tell myself I'll put it in its proper place later, but then I promptly forget it until it jabs me in the leg.

YES and Yes. For me it wasting time walking from building to building for another tool. The worst is laying under a vehicle and a tool is laying so close to your body that you have to crawl out from under the vehicle so that you can see it or grab it.

I have tried that but it does not work. Now I am looking for two things I think I have. This has been one of the best posts so far this season.

I did just that last night about 14 times. I couldn't figure out why the creeper wouldn't roll so I could go find the wire crimpers and they were under the creeper wheel. It's also unsettling to lay down on the creeper and hear all of the things sliding out of the pockets of your bibs and hitting the floor. Especially when you didn't know they had anything in them.
