what does a wagon running gear sell for?

1 ton, 5 ton, 20 ton? C'mon, we need some detail for a decent response---yes, the heavier gear with tandems and brakes do sell for 10k.

Still not enough info, but I'll throw something out there.
Five bolt wheels, gonna depend on tires, overall wear and condition, paint and brand, could be $125 to $350.
Six or eight bolt wheels, add a lot.

Older gears like a 900 series JD with decent tires and paint no bed just the gear $350 to $900. Newer 1065 JD gear extend tung good tires and paint $800 to $1500. Kill-Bros 10 ton gear decent tires and paint $600 to $1000. JM 10 ton gear good flotation tires and paint extend tung $600 to $1000. Lighter 5 and 6 ton gears 5 lug decent tires and paint JM New Idea IH AC Oliver Massey Case and the rest $250 to $500. I have seen all these bring more and I have seen them dirt cheap, It all depends on the sale and who wants one. I have seen some on CL like a 963 JD rough lookin for $450 and a decent one for $250. I bought a JD 963 2 years ago for $100 so it was a good deal. This time of the year gears tend to bring more money because hay season is coming and people are looking for gears and beds to get them ready to go. Paint tires and condition and brand set the price on running gears.

Some years ago I made good money going to farm sales and consignment sale buying hay wagons and gravity bed wagons cheap that the beds were shot but had good gears under them. Take the wood bed off (pitch in a gully) steel bed with wholes rusted in them went to the junk yard (after being striped for parts) that left the gears to put the best parts together to make the best ones. Take them to sales and double or triple my money on just the gear. Then people caught on, Oh well. Bandit

I don't think so I have been to Peru SA most good farm parts there are high those would be large farms often owned by off shore corporations. Junk from old cars are cheap made into wagons

I pay $100 for 4-5 ton gears with poor tires up to $500 for 8-10 ton gears with good flotation tires. I know they will bring more, but that is what I will spend. Usually have an extra gear on hand by being willing to pay those prices when a deal comes along.

I buy at least one running gear every year for my parade wagon building hobby. So I'm a buyer, not a seller. I pay around $400 for a gear and I don't care about the tires. I always take off the old ones and put new tires on. I look for straightness - although I have replaced one bent reach, no parts missing, solid steel with no rust holes although surface rust is o.k., no dents, matching wheels and hub caps, and always tapered roller bearings in the hubs. I don't buy gears with cage bearings or older gears with wheel bushings. I did overpay this year for a Gehl G500A gear at $500 but I was needing a gear right now and it was available and in very good condition. I have bought John Deere 963; John Deere 953; John Deere 952; New Idea 629; J&M 8-ton; 3 spoke-wheel gears of unknown origin; and a good looking gear at an auction with no known pedigree. $400 is a price that will get my attention. I look at many gears every year, especially on craigslist, and find that gears advertised at less than $300 are not gears that I can use.

you want an intelligent answer? Ask an intelligent question. If you had of said what is a running gear that has "ragged out tires, needing repair" I would of said $40-200

a lot depends on the brand, I saw an Oliver bring 800.00 just because it said Oliver on it and 2 guys wanted it.

(quoted from post at 15:40:38 01/27/15) Used ones;usual ragged tires, needing repair.10k will buy several new one here in Fl. Please, some intelligent answers

Sorry, but the question you asked is nearly impossible to answer, even with this additional information. If you want an "intelligent answer" you need to be specific.

There are different levels of "used ones" anywhere from antique to modern, straight to twisted like a pretzel, clean to covered with dingleberry-welded patches, 1 ton to 15 ton.

If you asked, "What does an Electric 5026 gear with old car tires, pretty rusty but straight with a couple of decent looking repairs go for?" you'd be on the right track.

Since you know what a new one costs you can make a judgement call on how much to pay for a used one.
