New and improved craigslist.

Craigslist has changed for the better since the last time I used it. Recently I posted a pic of my 18 hp kohler with a mouse nest, which I got off craigslist wanted to buy. I got it for $35. I wanted just the parts, ign coils, carb, starter, voltage regulator.

Two days ago I posted the same pics on craigslist to sell the engine block, when I discovered they have a new way of doing business. They send you back via your email where you have to confirm your post, manage it, and even delete it.

I sold the block for $50. Before removing the starter I even showed the buyer that it had no compression on #1 cylinder and the push rod was off the exhaust valve. He didn't care. He just wanted the rest for parts.

I've seen a lot of scams on craigslists. However I've had good luck buying and selling things there. I even told the buyer, who was coming at 5 pm, that another man wanted the heads for parts and he wanted me to show it before he got there. I told the second man he would have to wait. I gave my word to the first I would be there at 5. The first man thanked me for waiting on him. He said not everyone would do that.

I am a fan of craigslist.

I've had pretty good luck too. People are generally nice, but there are a few exceptions, the 5-10% that make everyone elses life miserable because they seem to be miserable themselves.

Sure is nice to hear others do the right thing. I commend you for giving the first guy time to get there.
This can backfire too if the other guy never showed like he said he would but still you have to give someone the benefit of the doubt.
I was on the other end of one of those things before and VOWED I'd always give someone time to get there. I usually don't have many buyers fighting over items though ! LOL. Anymore your lucky to get one interested.
I had told a guy I was on my way to buy his back blade as I was going to that area for a tractor show anyhow but it would take me about 1 hour to get there. But I wanted it. I showed up on time and found out he just sold it to someone else who lived closer and got there earlier. I was upset but what are you going to do ? I just left and went to the show.

Mike,
The first guy kept in touch via text. He even said he would be a hour late. We both were happy. I made a profit and got spare parts too. That was sweet. I know the second guy would have taken it too. So WIN.WIN.

Facebook seems to becoming the hot way to sell and buy items now.
Wife has been buying on there (too much)lately.
Sometimes there is a feeding frenzy though and people will get all PO"ED if you skip down the line of replies trying to sell to the ones who don't seem like tire kickers.

I'm not a fan of facebook, Not now or ever. I don't care to post pics of myself, kids or grandkids. Don't want others to know where I'm going.

I'm sure facebook is not very secure. Why not just post on ROBMENOW.COM what you are doing.

Personally, I think Fakebook should have been outlawed from the beginning. Seems to have started out with teenagers posting a lot of personal information about themselves, their families, pets, etc. What a bonanza for predators and burglars.
Then came all of this stupidity that I see all over now "like me on facebook" ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Makes me want to scream!
Seemingly "responsible" businesses are jumping on the bandwagon.
So now it expands out to games, classified ads, buying, selling, and trying to be eBay, Craigslist, and Amazon all in one place?
I point to this as proof of the dumbing down of America.

Just try to post something. Many hoops to jump through. Final hoop is they send you an email that you have to click on before they publish your ad. Hope this cuts down on scammers, which make me sick. I still like to use it and it's FREE.

I agree with you. I told my daughter the other day if you would get off facebook telling everybody what your doing every second maybe you would have time to clean your dang house.

A couple in georgia went to look at a ford mustang that was advertised on craigslist and both were murdered a few days ago. That's happened several times on craigslist over the years.

Must be a regional thing or something. I have been using it for years and no change here at least if you have an existing account I haven, t seen any changes. Write the add , attach the photos, and publish it in one final click.

It was actually started as a way for college students to connect with others. You had to have an email through a college to join.
That was actually the secondary motive. The first was to gather email addresses to sell to spammers.
