COD tractor auctioned off

In another thread, Fixerupper mentioned a COD tractor. (Thanks, Fixerupper.)

I had never seen nor heard of one - so I did a little googling. The top result of searching "COD tractor" will take you to an interesting article in back-issue Farm Collector magazine.

I also found this link to a video of a COD being auctioned off... very fun to watch.
COD tractor auctioned off

Whenever I'm buying something more than parts, I'm thinking "legitimate deductible farm expense". Does a $150,000 antique tractor qualify? I guess if someone has that much money, it doesn't matter.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to own one of every brand of tractor. NOT.. Some one should make a list of each one. I vote for SweetFeet. LOL

Little bit of background. There was a collector in our (fixerupper and I) area that had a C.O.D.

He bought it in the 70's restored and kept it for quite a while. Took it around to all the local parades doing threshing show promotion etc. I think he sold it in the 90's sometime.

I couldn't get the video to load and don't remember what his sold for.

Thanks for the vote. :)

C. H. Wendel beat me to it though! He even devoted a 1/2 page to the COD tractor in his book "Encyclopedia of American Tractors". (I got a great buy on it a couple of years ago on ebay.)

rick1,

Even if we had that kind of money (and we don't- not in our wildest dreams), I don't think we could bring ourselves to part with it.

BUT it sure is fun to be at an auction and watch someone else spend their money. :)

Maybe they can write it off somehow... you know, it's official "parade unit" for advertising my business.

Or yeah - they have so much money, it doesn't matter.

WOW! wish I had one sitting in the back corner of the shed. It'd be a good life insurance polity for Marilyn to cash in someday when I depart.

Yeppers... that WOULD be nice.

We could pay off the farm and have 120K leftover.
Would have had it paid off by now - but we tiled
it about 9-10 years ago... not cheap! :(

(quoted from post at 10:30:43 01/26/15) A good lesson for all the folks that say a non running tractor is only worth scarp price. At 1/2 price this one would still have been worth a little more(LOL)

If it is the one I am thinking of, it is now running nicely.

SweetFeet,

Here in Ontario Canada,
I would be thinking about the 13% Sales Tax.
$19,500
I sure could use it, and they will waste it in 2 seconds.

The dream doesn't die, just the dreamer.

In southern MN... but we bought the farm almost 30 years ago. Wouldn't even consider buying a farm at today's prices!

Sweetfeet, that tile is the only investment on the farm that works 24-7. It doesn't go to bed when the sun goes down.

I've been to auctions where valuable stuff has sold, often for more than it's real value because a couple of people couldn't remember that it's a SALE not a contest.

fixerupper,

I know that you're totally right, and we get higher land rent since tiling. But it just kind of makes it feel like we've bought the farm twice.
