Onan DJC generator problem- follow up

My Onan DJC generator starts and runs fine, but sometimes does not build up to full voltage (it is setup for 240/120v single phase). When it does build full voltage it works fine as long as the generator runs. Then if it sits for a couple of weeks, the next time it is started, it may or may not produce full voltage. Today I started it and it was not producing full voltage. Measuring the voltage at the generator, it was producing 80 volts line to line, and 32/40 volts line to neutral. I suspect my voltage regulator may need to be replaced, but that is about a 300$ part and I want to have a good probability of solving the problem before ordering a new V.R.

Sounds like regulator is going bad.Or you have some bad connections. You should talk to Flight Systems. They have a check list that can help check it out. Also they will talk with you.I have used them for years. Very good company with people that know what they are talking about. Not some kid reading out of a book.

I believe they sell the 300-1540 for around 200.00. Better board than Onan with a better warranty. They do have a rebuild service and can check yours. To make sure it needs repairs. They will not rip you off.

The turn around time is four days. Depending on how busy they are. If you need a manual. Go over to smokstak Onan section. Post the full model and serial number and an email address. You will get the manuals you need for free.
