Sounds Like A Deal!

I had a lot of guys trying to buy this little Oliver Cletrac HG42 for $600, which was probably pretty good for me, but I just had this guy e-mail me. Wants to trade me his Farmall H for my Oliver, I think that will work out alright, so away it goes!

Only thing is that I have to deliver the cat and get my tractor, and it is just about 2:10-30 away. Actually right past where we bought the 4 JD's!?!

SO, am either loading up and heading out right now, or am going to at least load up and head out Sunday or Monday, haven't heard from him...

Sound good to you? Does to me! :)

If your happy that's all that matters.

You say a lot wanting to buy it ? Were they not showing up with the money ? Seems like a good price for a crawler ?

If you start getting a lot of trade deals going always get something extra to boot as they call it around here. Cash guns tools ? At least that's the way the successful wheelers and dealers around here do.

There sure seems like a lot of untapped iron out your way in decent shape ! Most here (Ohio) look like that G in your pics. with the grilles smashed all to you know what !

If both parties are happy sounds like a deal. I have T6 I would have traded you straight across as I am an Oliver guy :)

I would've kept the cletrac that looks like a nice machine, there are 13 in a dozen farmalls around and the things are just as obsolete as the cat

Bryce, to late in the day to leave today. Why wait to Sunday or Monday. Saturday seems like a good day to go doesn't it.

Or do you have more important plans for Saturday than to go get a tractor??

I have a guy coming out to look at the Massey Harris tomorrow, and also a guy coming out to look at a Farmall C,

PLUS, I am taking Casey out to Bowling and Dinner... :)

Still haven't heard back from the guy... Probably because I am so excited to get it!!!!

Well, I posted the ad yesterday morning, and I instantly had 2 tire kickers, but even they were ready to give me $400.

Then I had three more guys e-mail, and I talked two of them out of it (know the guys) and the third guy was going to try to come look at it tomorrow, from 4 hours away!

Then I had this guy e-mail yesterday afternoon wanting to trade the H, and I could really use that H, so I am going for it! :)

There are a lot of tractors out here, most are hammered/mistreated. This one is about as nice as they come!

It could be a nice machine, but it has issues. Frame rails have been welded on, not running (wouldn't take much though) clutches are weak, tracks are O K, hood has been cut badly, grill gone, etc.

I hope that he restores it... This is the last one I have that came from my deceased neighbor. He hated it with a passion, but it was still his, and that is really the only reason I have hung onto it...

Going to be holding back the tears when I have to say good bye.

Just keep telling my self that it will be at a better home!

Bryce

Thats what I was thinking! I think that I may be getting the upper hand in the deal, but it is all about want!

He has what I want, and vise versa. I personally wouldn't mind taking a "loss" if it was something I really wanted!

Bryce

My self I would prefer having that Cletrac HG over an H any day of the week. If it still has the Hercules engine in it that is even better. Farmall Hs are a dime a dozen the Cletrac on the other hand is a lot less common

Me too! I can't get anywhere around here without going down a nice road, so a tractor with tires is a must. Plus I have to go 4 or 5 miles for some jobs, and having that fast road gear will be very nice as well!

Like I said to Richard above, it is all about what he and I want...

One mans trash is anothers treasure right!! :)

Do you need a Hercules? I am going to be getting a 4 cyl one out of a Case 310 Cat. Supposed to be in very good shape! They totaled the cat, and the engine is all that is left, would make you a deal on it!

if your both happy than it's a good deal. I would rather have the oliver than the farmall.

very least I would want a super H

Your way to far from me to make getting an engine form you worth the cost of shipping. I have a Cletrac HG that has an Oliver 60 engine in it and boy does that make a big difference in the power it has. When I got it, it has Continental engine in it that had very little power

If the Cletrac has issues, best to move it along down the road. Crawlers are harder to work on- everything is heavy, and parts can be difficult to find, especially if the basic components are weak (clutches, frame). I think you made a good trade.

Hey Bryce Didn't take long for you to get back here with buying selling and trading. Do you remember, a month or so back I said not to post prices and too much info on forums when dealing, Hint Hint. I found pictures of my tractor on Google from 18 months ago last week. Guys you might be trying to deal with could be reading this very forum Be careful with what you say. Your letting quite a bit of rope out on a noose , and it might snap tight one day.
Nice to know your "friend" has become Casey now. Good luck on the Date
Regards Robert

I'd keep the crawler. All the H is a super sized 8N without the 3 point. You pick up a whopping 3 HP. Had a guy here last year trying to sell a nice H with trip loader, Corn Husker 3 point and tire chains. Took him a very long time to get 1500 for it. Another guy here this summer had to put his wife in assisted living. He sold a very nice M, aftermarket WFE, trip loader, add on power steering, new rear tires, Corn Husker 3 point and chains. He wound up getting 1800 bucks for it. Here that crawler would be at least 1K if not more.

Just be careful with road gear on a tryke. The taller the rear wheels ...You know. My dad roller a couple of chop sylage wagons cause he was going too dang fast!! What a major pain in the butt to clean up!!

Yep, you are right. A guy up here restored an IH crawler, and I bet he has got $8000 into that thing!!

They are nice, but would be very useless around here.. I can skid logs with a wheeled tractor just as well, then I can load them on my cart and race down the road to my deck! Can't do that with a cat!

Plus, the guy said that he has a really bad one, and is planning on using it to fix this one, so that should work well for him... Bryce

Yes sir! I am very cautious with any piece of equipment. I am a good operator, know when to take it slow and truly focus if needed, I don't break and tear things up like other guys do for sure!

Silage wagons would be ugly... Worst thing I would loose would be hay bales or logs! :)

Bryce that H will be a real handy tractor for you and I know you will take good care of it. One word of caution, an H with a narrow front is a tippy tractor. I know you are a careful young man but it can happen so darned fast to anybody of any age. When I was your age I helped pull a mortally injured man out from under an overturned M. The location where he rolled it would have rolled even the most stable tractor, but it left an indelible memory. Twenty years ago I lost a former classmate from another M rollover and he was a real sensible careful farmer. We don't want to lose you. jim

Oh Bryce, if it were me I would not get rid of that Oliver. You don't come across them every day like you do Farmall H tractors. I know you're young yet but when you turn 40 you'll wish you kept it if you sell it now...

I don't know, that isn't my department! The guy is giving me the complete engine for it's weight in scrap, and I really don't know what I am going to do with it, so if I could get a few bucks for it, great!

He told me it came out of his old Case 310 Cat, that is all I know, I have never even seen it! Bryce

Bryce: You have a much more collector piece in the Oliver. There are hundreds of thousands of IH "H" tractors out there. A restored IH "H" is not worth much over $1500. Where the Oliver in running conditions is easily worth 2-3 times as much.

Now if you are wanting to have one to play with that you do not have to work on than the IH "H" might not be a bad trade. You still need to draw some boot in my mind.

I think a straight up trade is a sucker one for you.

Your market must be in the dumps for a Oliver crawler to only be worth $600. If that is the case then the IH "H" would be only worth $500-700 in your area.

I would think the Oliver could be advertised nation wide and bring a much higher price than $600.

Just because you have been buying and selling on the cheap does not mean that is the true market of the items. So you need to work on a wider range than your local market seems to be.

JD, I don't undrestand those cheap prices either. Just the weight of the H would make it that $500 at the crusher and the Oliver I would think would be heavier than the H and that would make it the $600 at the crusher. So why are people selling items for less than they could get for them at the crushers? Don't make sence to me.

leroy: its the love of tractors to tractor lovers, just like old cars are to car lovers, old bikes to cycle riders,, its not about the money to some, its the love of the machine to some..

Well, I don't know what that H will weigh, but I have a scale sheet saying that the Oliver weighs 3100 LB's, and I know that H is more than that!

The H has $500 worth of rear tires, plus it is running, plus it is big enough to do all the things I want to do with it!

The Oliver, even if it is worth a lot of money, isn't worth anything to me. It has a tiny little 4cyl flat head, the smallest one they ever came with, the entire machine is beat to a pulp, and quite frankly, I personally just don't like it!

I am happy with the trade, maybe he is getting the better of me, but who cares, we are both very happy with the deal!

Plus being that I have to deliver it, there just so happens to be a 16 year old girl that wants to go with me! WIN WIN tractor or not! :)

Bryce,I'm with you on this one.If you are happy and the other party is happy,go for it!If you've been trying to sell and no takers, then it's not worth what everyone seems to indicate. And since it seems to need a lot of work(and money),and you dont need or like it,let it GO.So dont hold out for that 'pie in the sky' high price. If you cant sell(or still have 10 years later)It 'aint worth squat'."A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".Make your trade, enjoy your new H.And enjoy the girls company too! Steve

Hey, are you following me? :)

I will enjoy her company for sure.... :)

I am excited! I am a Farmall guy, and I have wanted an H for a long time, and this to me seems to be a great deal to get a good running one!

I'll get it home and take it for a test drive and stuff, but I think that it is going to do well.. Very excited!

I always like the attention hauling some gets you.

That is actually how I have gotten 3 of my tractors. You start bs'n with some guy at the fuel depot, and turns out he has a tractor, etc, etc.

Pretty soon you have another one to go get!!

I think that it will be fun! Bryce

Yes I would like to keep all of them as well, What I do not understand is why somebody would price them way below scrap price, must be somebody with no bills to pay and plenty of money for everything that I do not have. Nice if you can afford to give something away. I would at least like to get scrap price for anything I sell. Took a plow to consignment auction this fall, could have been a usuable plow but it was converted to rubber and I needed steel. Should have brought around $85 at scrap prices but evidently no scrappers there this time, usually several. Ended up getting about $20 for it, dissapointed that no one thought it was worth scrap.
