Here I am with another not an antique

I'm getting to be enough of an antique, I am replacing some of my antique tractors. Is there anything more difficult to get on and off than an AC B? Plus I wanted some other features like 3 point hitch, power steering, remote outlets, etc. etc.

I bought a NH TT60A. Several years old, less than 500 hours. It's a basic, simple, Fiat, but with a bunch of electrical "safety" junk added. Working to find out what's draining the battery, I removed the annoying alarm. Fortunately the safety features I wanted intact(like not being able to start it in gear/PTO on) were unaffected. While researching and checking all starting features, I find this solenoid on the back side of the injector pump. Or so I thought. It's actually a "KSB"- kaltstartbeschleuniger- cold start advance, or cold start accelerator according to another translation.
A temperature sensor, in the water pump, closes at 131 degrees F, sends voltage to this unit, whereupon the wax inside is heated, expands, and pushes the rod/arm on the pump, to return the pump to running timing.
Anyone seen this before?!

I should say all first gen dodge pickups with the 5.9 cummins have them. I'm not sure about the other applications.

Speaking of old tractors that are hard to get on and off of....The Farmall 350 row crop required a monkey for an operator.

My 7410 JD, had same kind of cold start advance. Last summer it went bad and was shorting out the solenoid at the injection pump. The Deere Tech unplugged it and all is well now. Andy

david brown /case has a similar advance timing etra fuel spray o their tractor ,,, was not aware that my 95 dodge had such a component ,, but I must say it is a great cold starter ...

The 560 Farmall! Getting on one of those put your nut sack at risk. Once you were in the "cockpit" you were OK but getting on and off was risky. Also, the late model 140 with the huge steering wheel and the "deluxe" seat, not enough room to get out from under the steering wheel and off the seat.

Get something with heat, air, and stereo.
I don't know about you but I figured I deserved it at this stage of my life.

My Ford backhoe has a cold start button on the injector pump. I don't use it because- when the engine starts, it races to 1200 RPM, whereupon the button kicks off, and the engine immediately stalls. I'm better off to set the throttle to idle at 1000 RPM before shut down. Then when started cold, it's got just enough speed/fuel flow to keep running.

The worlds worst tractor to get on has to be a model R38 Silver King with fenders that have braces from the transmission to the sheet metal.
If you do not have a drawbar mounted you need to climb the rear tire and fender to get to the seat.
They are cute anyway.

Almost anything that had 2 row mounted pickers! Had Ford 961D with front and rear cultivators with the bar that runs from the rear lift to the front(1 on each side) that required a good climb an careful foot placement!

Most Perkins have a cold start advance device. Some folks adjust it so its advanced all the time, makes a tiny bit more power in the Tier 2 emissions tractors as they run somewhat retarded timing.

ryan........my 1994 Dodge Cummins Diesel (2nd gen) hassa electric grid heater in the MOUTH of the intake manifold. Ya waits until the dashboard lite tells ya to giffer a start. Good thing there's DUAL fender mounted batterys 'cuz one won't dooer. ......Diesel Dell

Our compact JD does something like that. Although thought it was retarded when the oil pressure was none or low. Vic
