Farmall B450 RC

Hi all, I just was gifted a fantastic Farmall B450 RC from a late uncle. I've been in need of a good tractor for some time, but this one seems to be a bit much for me. I've only got 5 acres, and 2 horses and 1 cow. From what I researched these are collectors tractors so I hate to even use it. I'd rather see it go to a collector and I could downsize to something more modern with more safety features, and possibly a frontend loader.

Does anybody have a rough estimate of its value?
I would say the condition is good (or very good if you consider that it is 58 years old). It runs fantastic, exhaust is clear, but the glow plugs don't work. No oil leaking that I can see. Paint is fantastic, the lights aren't hooked up.
Serial # 3457

Is it worth me trying to restore a bit?

cheers!

Yes very rare but I have no idea about value. When The B.450 replaced The BWD 6 and Super BMD tractors International found they had a lot of BMD 'bits' left over so they sort of made them into a rowcrop version of the B.450 ( although they look just like a Super BMD to me!)But I don't think they actually made that many of them. It would be nice if you could post some pictures and , unless you have done so already, post your question on The IH forum. We had a "Standard" B.450 whch was a bit crude compared to say a MF 65 (Only 5 forward and 1 reverse gear! ) and it was a lousy starter but it would outpull any other tractor in its class, e.g. MF 65 or Fordson Major.

I had one back in the 90s, that was in pieces when I got it, but all complete. Found very little wrong with it once I got it running and moving. I was able to get a few minor parts, like gaskets, at the IH dealer near me, and I needed one bearing which I got from my local parts man. I paid 1000 for it and sold it for 4000. Still a mystery how it ever made it this far south, but the guy I bought it from took it on partial trade for another tractor he had.

The reason the tractors were brought to the US is because in the early 60's tractor prices had gone up so high that many farmers complained to their dealers that the new tractors had to many bells and whistles and all they needed was a M with 3 point. The southern IH dealers got together and orders a shipload of B-450s and if IRC they came into Mobile or New Orleans. The problem was that the price of the "M with 3 point hitch" had increased dramatically so they weren't the bargain the farmers hoped for and no more were imported. This is what was told to me by a former IHC blockman.

Not to many USA collectors of those "B" Farmalls. They never were very popular and parts were hard to get. They don't seem to bring much at auctions around here. Get it home and place a for sale sign on it. Ask $5000. or best offer. You never know. P. T. Barnum said there was one born everyday.
