Nice looking cows and feeding operation. Heard that cows can stay on the open range down to -20F chill factor if fed properly. Got any comments?

Thanks,
Mark

It spins the bale against a set of spinning knives that grind it up and kicks 'er out the side in a windrow.

Recollection was from a picture I saw of a heard of white face out on the open, knee deep in snow, obvious wind howling as snow was blowing sideways, and nothing between them and the N. pole but a somewhat broken down barbed wire fence.

Then there was that old movie where somewhere up there, maybe Nebraska, where they were using a C 119 flying boxcar to feed more white face cows out in the open. Apparently land vehicles couldn't get to them because of the drift.

An then I think of my spoiled (x spoiled, sold them at this high going price) brats that I built a loafing shed specifically for them to get in out of the weather, weather a whole lot more benign than what you folks get up there and farther north endure.

If I put windrows that close the cows would be eating on one craping on the other.

I'm afraid this is gonna be ugly. I'd been holding fat cattle until the first of the year because I didn't want anymore income in 2014. Now they're saying highs in the single digits tomorrow. The truck has to go to the body shop a week from tomorrow,so they'll be standing here for two more weeks at least. Some are way overweight already.

Allan, what kinda power does your Haybuster use? Would love one for blowing out straw. Unrolling frozen bales by hand in the dark at -18 isn't any fun. Would a 706D run one?

So you want to stand out there in the dark trying to get that diesel running at -18  !

I don't know. Got a friend that runs one on an 856 with no problems. I'd try looking at them and seeing what the manufacturer say the HP requirements are.

How you been anyway?

Rick

I'm using a 186 (108)hp) with gobs of power to spare.

As long as you have 1000 pto, I'd say yes to the 706.

I don't know. If things get out of hand from unexpected income in 15 like they did in 14,I'll have to ask.

Done that with my soybeans the last two years. My check for 2014 will be here tomorrow, could have had it Friday if I'd wanted to drive 30 miles. Just be sure you're dealing with a bonded elevator, not sure how it works on cattle, you are trusting them to pay you later.
