O/T Need advice from veterans DD-214

When I got out they hammered it into our heads to bring it to the court house in our home town and have them keep it for us.
Then if you ever needd a copy you could ask and they would give you a certified copy which is just as good.
Maybe you forgot if you did that?

sir I am not a veteran my self but I do help my uncle who is. we have a county veterans, liaison in our county seat we went in front of him and he was able to obtain a certified copy of his dd 214 for my uncle. oh and thank you for your service and that goes for everyone that sees this!!!!!

I kept mine at home but your county VA person should be able to tell you what to do. Are you aware that the warehouse in Kansas city where they kept a lot of the records burned in the 70s?

I have mine here at home but I also have a certified copy in the country recorders office too.

Go to a VA hospital where they check you in and sign you up and they can get it and make a copy for for you also.

There are a number of ways to get it. Call 800-827-1000 and ask for the paper work. Or find a local D.A.V. rep and they can fill out the info for you and get you one. Or the Va web site

Thank you for saying the words, but you have NO IDEA how many YEARS it takes to put that behind you, once you have tasted blood..

When I turned 62 and retired, I ordered one online and it took forever. Meanwhile I had an appointment with the local SS office and was prepared to explain what I had done and the result.

The very courteous clerk said not to worry, she had access to it, which she did. So if you want it for that reason, they may already have it.

On the local SS office, I scheduled an appointment over the phone. I went to the office which was packed with walk-ins. I sat in the lobby all of 5 minutes prior to the time of my appointment. I was called in, they had all of what I needed, we went through everything including electronic delivery to my bank and I was out of there in 15 minutes.

While on the subject, on Medicare, I did it all on the www. Piece of cake. Don't knock the way the government handles seniors, at least not down here. They are efficient and courteous and take care of your.
