Unplug it for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in. Might also need to restart your computer. If that doesn't work, get a new printer.

Reboot your computer. Pull the power cord to the printer, wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.

One time a techie at HP told me to hold down the "ON/OFF" button while unplugging the power cord to the printer for 60 seconds.

These are all individual hints, not necessarily to be done at the same time. One or the other has always worked on my printer.

I have an HP printer that's probably 6 or 8 years old. I think I probably paid $34 for it when bought it, and over the years I've put hundreds of dollars worth of ink cartridges through it. But I like it because it's fast and does a good job. It has a half dozen quality settings from "Fast Draft" to "Photo", and it's easy to switch settings.

I've tried newer, higher priced ones, and I always come back to this old beater.

Unplugging our P6400 for a minute cured the issues it had re not responding. We"ve had it for some years and last week was the first time it acted up.

I have a HP C5200 printer and it does the very same thing occasionally. Like what was said earlier, it's probably your ink cartridges, especially if it's been a while since you printed anything.
First, remove and then re-install the carts. If that don't work, you probably need new ink carts. While you are working on it anyway, might use a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean all the tracks and rollers in the paper tray. It will help avoid paper jams and other problems.
Hope this helps you.

rebooted worked for a while.. printed the test page then quit..i will keep trying what you all are suggesting thanks

If you do get it printing decently... I had a sales guy at Office Max tell me to print one sheet a week to keep stuff from drying out.

So made a document with a row of X's in color: black, magenta, blue and yellow... that way each cartridge gets "tapped" when I print my weekly test sheet.

You can purchase a new 'all in one' unit for less than $100. The better ones come with ink and you can often 'sweeten the deal' (for you) by asking for ink refills to be included. Just sayin'. HTH

Unplug the printer power cord and hold the on/off button down for about 10 seconds. That should clear the printer memory. It may help.

That is very good advice. I need to do the same thing.

well thanks for all the info.i"m trying most of your ideas, so far its hit and miss.. I get it print a couple of times then it stops working. i'm about ready to get another one, saw one in paper for $49. i'll keep trying for a while.. hope everyone had a merry Christmas and will have blessed and happy new year

I looked up HP 3600 and most of the first results are "laserjet", a laser printer. Don't really see an inkjet that's plain 3600, but I looked only briefly.

If you don't print many photos, laser makes a lot of sense, toner instead of ink, powder, doesn't dry out, cheaper to print. Black and white ones are cheap, color can even be found reasonable. I have a Samsung laser color and it does "ok" with photos and great with everything else. I'd recommend either Brother (often on the cheaper end to run), or Canon (subjective, but I'd say a better brand). With Canon, some of the wear items are built into the cartridge so they are new with every cartridge. With either you can generally either refill or get cheap generic. Sometimes they don't have a scanner for copying as often as inkjets on the cheaper ones. Also, don't know if you know or if it will be handy, but "duplex" printing means it can print on both sides of the paper automatically (sucks it back in by itself to print on other side), handy when printing out things like manuals or something. I mention that to some people around and they didn't know they did that.

If you go to slickdeals.net and in the top search type in printer and search, you should see deals on various printers, and some discussion on the models, arguing and the whole deal. Some to order, some in stores, some to order into stores. But most "deals" should turn up there. If you want a specific type of printer, just add different search words.

Or try copying this whole thing and pasting it in the address bar, I figured this site might not allow me to use an address shortening site, some don't.
