Made it Home

Went to visit my two oldest grandchildren (7 and 10; that have been living in Germany the past 5 years) in eastern North Carolina (Aberdeen; Ft Bragg area) for the holidays.

Since we brought back a lot of baby/toddler stuff my son was giving to his sister we made the trip in my old pickup (1998 F150 no cruise). Now my legs and lower back are paying for it.

One rear tire flat (on the 285 loop around Atlanta of all places) and 885 miles each way and we are back home safe. Took us 12½ hours driving time and 14¼ hours total time (each way) so I think we made good time.

Nice country in the Aberdeen area of N.C. Saw plenty chicken and/or turkey farms in the area.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
I know I did.

congrats! Glad I didn't have to do that. Hope you got plenty of time off to rest up from it.

Glad you made it ok shame you got that flat I hate working on the side of those highways. We went to see our daughter and SIL near Florence SC the farms start right by there house and continue west, its a whole lot flatter then our NY mts. 750 miles each way, no problems even with me, SWMBO and the three little dogs in a small car, dogs were great as long as the car was moving they laid down in back seat. Got stuck in traffic both ways stop and go for a while.

John, Glad you made it home O.K. Know what you mean about the flat near Atlanta. I am always nervous driving around or thru Atlanta. Fixing a flat there would be even more nerve wracking.

Take care of your back and glad you had that quality time with your Grandchildren and family.

I hear ya on the sore legs and back. In April, I drove an 86 S-10 with a utility body (4 cyl "Iron Duke" keys and a heater) straight through (44 hrs.) from Sacramento CA to White Lake MI. Down hill with a wind, that thing would do 65.
