I have a Yanmar YM2000 Diesel - LOVE IT!! but I can't figure out if it has a glow plug or not - it has the "glow plug" position on the switch! It runs AWESOME!!
Also, how would I find out how old it is - the number on the side says ym2000-04811
Here is a video : http://youtu.be/2D5gmgyKoYI?list=UU7TY6oc3N-TD34WpzI3MzYg

Gary:

You have what is called a GRAY MARKET tractor, in other words it was never "authorized" by Yanmar Corporation for shipment to the United States.

From your video, the little lever under the left side of the dash should be the "Decompression" lever, if the engine spins rapidly while holding the lever down and turning the key to the "start" position. Using the Decompression Lever pre-lubes the engine before starting, give it a little bit of throttle when it is spinning rapidly and the engine should start right up without any need for Glow-Plugs or Pre-Heater.

On mine (YM 1300 D-A) it does NOT have Glow-Plus but instead has a little cup that you fill with Diesel, and then turn the key to the Left to the Pre-Heat position. This preheats that little cup of fuel and injects it into the engine to make starting easier in VERY COLD weather. Living in Southern Nevada I've never needed to use it.

As far as WHEN your tractor was made, you need to do some diligent research. The closest I've been able to come on mine is 1976.

Here are a couple of sites that may be of help to you:

www.tractorbynet.com/forums - (Yanmar forums)

Hope this helps.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas Doc !! and a Happy Year to you and yours !!

We had a great Christmas - our family is very close .. we have 5 children and 12 grands and all get together on Christmas Eve each year .. this year one of most "colorful" boys got killed in a construction accident .. so it put a little damper on the Christmas Eve time but it went well .. anyway!! Of course he was missed .. but we didn't talk about it much and of course the kids always make a difference ..

God Bless ..

Gary

When you turn the key to the left, doesn't activate a small heating coil in the intake where that diesel oil from the small cup then ignites and warms the intake manifold for easier starting?.Should be able to see it if you remove the hose off the intake manifold.

Gary, I'm glad you had a Merry Christmas with all of your family around (even with the loss of one of the boys, - sorry for your loss).

Holidays are kind of a bummer for me. Ever since I was a teenager I have always wanted a family of my own - unfortunately that just wasn't meant to be. I have OUTLIVED 2 wives and all 7 of my children. My entire first family were wiped out by a drunk driver while I was at work. I will never see grandchildren.

So you see, holidays are not a happy time for me.
