Hi,
Just got one of them 'free channels' on tv,
tryin to egg ya on to pay for a larger bill...

Anyways, anybody remember 'Hee-Haw'?

I just caught an episode, good music and too many
jokes to remember, I was glad to catch it.

However, I remember one skit,
Grandpa Jones doing the '200 years ago today'

More or less, he reported:
Patrick Henry is known for his famous words;
'Give me Liberty or give me Death'.

Grandpa Jones went on to continue,
Patrick Henry had been miss-quoted,

He actually said, 'Give me Livvy or give me Beth'
Two sisters that lived about a block away.
He was known as a 'ladies man'.
Grandpa Jones,'and that's the way it was,
200 years ago'.

Not verbatim, but close, all rights given to them.
I just laughed thru the whole show, other than when
they were playin music.

That show was great, reminded me of my younger years,
and jokes like that just got to make ya giggle.

Wish 'Hee-Haw' was still on.

Anyone else remember 'Hee-Haw'?

Thanks, Danny

I actually get that channel RFD-TV, I watch it almost every week. Though I'm only in my late thirties I remember sitting in my grandparents kitchen watching it on Saturday nights. My wife remembers watching it too as her folks got ready to go dancing on Saturday nights.

Some pretty good skits and good old music, and some of those gals on there wore some pretty skimpy outfits too!

And you can't forget Jr. Sample at sample sales "come on down or give us a call, the number is BR-549"

do you know which channel it was? was it rfd-tv, or is it also on another channel? rfd is good tv. they have a show called classic tractor fever with nothing but old tractors. It's a great show.

Liked Hee Haw, It was one of the good shows you could watch and not worry about your kids being there with you. Corny jokes and good music. Many nice looking ladies too.

I really believe the skills that many country singers have get little mention compared to other gentries. I feel Roy Clark is one of the best musicians that lived in the 20th century. I know that is a bold statement but very few have his wide ranging skill level on many instruments.

It is a shame that wholesome entertainment like Hee Haw is not produced today. There is not enough "sizzle" to attract a big enough audience. That is the feeling of the Hollywood people that really have no idea of the core values most of this country still has.

I remember watching it as a kid growing up. It was dads favorite show and we only had one TV, so you guessed it, we all watched it. Thought it was a little stupid at the time. I didn't enjoy bluegrass music and hillbilly humor near as much untill after I was grown. I would likewise enjoy some of the re-runs now since there is nothing even close to it now days. Its unfortunately not on any of my channels.

We used to watch it every week.

We still look them up on youtube. Good, clean fun!

The town of Janesville, MN does a take-off of Hee Haw about every two years, usually in April. They have a sell out crowd and hold it in the school's facilities with local talent of which they have a bunch. Well worth it to attend even if you have to travel some significant distance.

I have a authinic pair of Hee Haws Bib overalls and several caps. I wear them occasinoly, the elderly people enjoy them, the younger people just don't understand
.I rememerd when Junior told Lulu ( You don"t smell too bad for a fat women). I told my first wife that. Seems like she took me se
rious, About 40 years ago she took off.

I've been part of that show the last 3 times we've done it. We have most of the same skits (LaVern & Ida Lee, the barber shop, complete with Rindercella, the Culhanes, KORN news, and most of the others) plus LOTS of music, all done by local performers. The last time we did it in 2013, we sold out six shows. The show usually runs over 3 hours, but nobody complains!
Not sure when the next one will be. The fellow who, played LaVern passed away last year, so it was decided not to do it this year, in part out of respect. They may bring it back next year, but no one knows for sure. It is an awful lot of work!

Watched an episode with the kids and my granddaughter on RFD the other night. They laughed all the way though it. I snickered a lot, I guess the "korny" humor gets me. I grew up with it in the 60's and 70's. My wife's parents always watched it and she absolutely hates it! But then, she's a Dan Fogleberg/Bread/Foreigner type person, she never liked country, unless you consider John Denver and the Eagles country.

I don't know who thought Hee Haw had bluegrass, but there was very, very little bluegrass on HH. Just because a guy has a banjo don't make it 'grass!

My kids like Hee Haw and they like Lawrence Welk. Must be doing something right! My granddaughter is 5 and just adores LW, she dances all the way through it. But then, she dances to the hymms in church too, much to the delight of all the elderly folks. Pretty cute.

I had an uncle that was just like Junior. Went barefoot almost all the time also. Loved working with him on the farm as he always had you laughing.
One of my favorite Junior scenes is when he and Grandpa or Archie are laying down propped up on feed bags. Grandpa says, " That girl walking over there shore is something to look at". Junior says , " Boy I shore wish I was a lookin thataway".

PS: Saw Archie do a show it Gatlinburg, TN back in the 70's.
Also got a closeup photo I took of Minnie Pearl when she came to our county centennial parade in the late 60's. She was being escorted to the parade and when she saw me holding my camera, stopped and smiled and waved.

Ahhh... the memories, yes great show. Remember watching it as a kid, like many we had one TV, got two channels and it was on whatever one dad wanted to watch. Us kids were dads remote control, also if the reception was bad he'd use his "remote control" to go outside and see which way the rooftop antenna was pointing, thinking it was out of sync with the little box that moved it.

Still watch a little of the show on RFD TV, mostly for the memories of dad & the good 'ol days of one TV, two channels & a problematic antenna!

I have to agree with you on Roy Clark, JD. There was none better on the guitar or banjo. Really something to see Roy and Buck Trent doing the dueling banjos thing, wasn't it? You can see Roy and Trent on Counrty's Family Reunion occasionally. In the later episodes Roy is getting quite feeble.

Hey, Hee Haw, folks remembered the show.
I was lucky I caught that show.
Glad others enjoy it too.
Now that I'm older,
I guess I understand why my Mom
bitched at my Dad when he concentrated
on the skimpy outfitted ladies.
Part of why they divorced,
HaHa,
But still a darn good show.
Wish I could get it all the time.
As others said, guess 'Hollywood'
doesn't get it.
Oh well, reruns are great,
dry corny humor, one liners, skits, and good music.
Just glad to hear some others think 'Hee Haw' was
worth watching.
They have all these 'remakes' of movies these days,
wonder how good they could do with remakes series
of Hee Haw...
Anyone else have a
comment on that show?

A buddy of mine and I went to Grand Ole Opry in the middle '50s when it was still downtown Nashville in the Ryman Auditorium.

While we were waiting in a long line for tickets, Minnie Pearl and other performers walked down the line greeting people.

You don't see performers connect with the audience like that anymore.

(quoted from post at 09:40:53 12/17/14) You all forgot my favorite... Where oh where are you tonight. Why did you leave me here all alone.

I'd searched the world over and I thought I'd found true love, you met another and plbbbbbttt you was gone!!

I can't help but think that show was considered risque' for the late 60's early 70's, not only the cleavage & skimpy outfits but some of the lines/jokes/gossip were pretty racy for TV in that era.

I worked nights for many years so I didn't get to see that many shows. When I did get to see them I think I missed 30% of the jokes because I was still laughing at a couple of jokes before.
And yes Roy Clark-a real talent.

One of the verses of that song ended with;

"I thought you would leave the hogs in the pig-pen, but I was mistaken for you took them all."

This is my second comment on this post but I can't help it. I loved Hee-Haw. One of the jokes I remember was one of the Hagar twins standing in the cornfield with one of the cute girls.
She ask,"What you doing?"
He answers, "I'm going to the barn and get some manure to put on my strawberrys."
She says, "Really? We always just put sugar on ours."

It come on every week on RFD TV. Usually on Sat or Sunday evening. A lot of Blue Grass and county music too.

My late sister and husband lived in Janesville. Mary and Jerry Schultz. Niece lives on their old farm right south of town and her husband has his own fabricating business. Never heard of that show being done there though.

I knew them quite well. I also know Jim & Sue. Jim has done work for me.

The local show was started I believe in the '80's by the Jaycee women, later known as "Women of Today". They did it annually for maybe 10 years or so, then stopped doing it. In 2006 the town celebrated its 150 year anniversary, so a group of folks brought it back. Since then it has been done in 2009, 2011, and 2013.

Nice to hear you knew them and know Jim & Sue. Have you seen his Mustang he restored. They were up here at Madison on the 4th of July a few years ago and saw that one sitting by the local Chev dealer. I checked on it for him and he came back up and bought it . Supposedly identical to his first car he owned that he wrecked. I saw it a couple of years ago and let me tell you he didn't miss any details on the restoration. He didn't do all the work himself but let me tell you he does do great work.

I watched a 30 minute episode on youtube last year
and I loved it. Some of them said they had a lot
of fun making the shows. Never heard Buck Owens
hated the show. But you always have one in the
crowd.
