OT-posting name

Anyone know if I can 'edit' my posting 'name', or are we stuck with it, as it.
There are a few members that were wise enough to add a couple letters for state they live in. Like. mn,wi,mi,etc. Many posters say, "Around here today", blah blah happened. It would be sooo nice to know where 'around here is' ? ?
I would like to add my state ID to my name...?

I agree 100%! It is absolutely meaningless to post information about things where you are if no one knows where that is. On "Site Comments" a while back someone asked to have their handle changed and they did it. Might be they prefer an email though.

My guess is you can't, when I first registered I entered the wrong time zone on my profile and it finally bugged me enough that I went back in and fixed it. I kept getting an error message stating I had to remove my location to protect my privacy when I tried to update my info. I don't know why that option can't still be available, mine was listed below my "handle" on my profile.

Not quite the same scenario but along the same line.

Just go to "site comments" section and ask them and they will do it for you automatically and instantly. Just tell them what your new choice is.

After a while folks figure out where you are.My Handle "DeltaRed" tells about me. 'Delta'
(Colorado) is where I am from. 'Red' states that I like red(IH) tractors. So keep posting,as we get to know you we will figure out where you are.And some other things as well!

Thanks DeltaRed, Although I don't know the connection--- Delta to Colorado. If I use
Wolverine/FlambeauRed, what does that tell you.lol

Thanks Randy, You have same 'addition' that I would like to have.
OK, I give ! where is Site Comments ? ?

Flambeu Red says Case.Wolverine? ..Delta is the city/town(pop around 7000) i live near.It is in western Colorado At 5000 altitude in the Uncompahgre Valley. Clear as mud? lol

Because of our higher altitudes here, some folks on these forums probably think I am suffering from altitude sickness/oxygen deprivation!!! LOL

Unless someone is using wireless internet service you can check their IP address, I do that occasionally just out of curiosity. It doesn't give there street address, just city and provider.

That's funny because I always think of the Mississippi river delta, and not Delta, CO when I see your handle.

I wanted to change something on my profile, but it said I had to delete my location, and I would rather not do that. I'm not concerned about privacy. A simple search on the internet will tell everyone my exact street address anyhow. There is no such thing as privacy on the world wide web.

Use Modern View and you can add your location. Drives me nuts when people don't put where they are from and really drives me nuts when they respond to someone in a long thread and don't use the "Quote" function to address whomever it is they are talking to. Modern View!

(quoted from post at 20:11:10 12/15/14) Now, wish many more members would add their State ID.

I have found that I can just state my region (NE) in the text in the rare situation where region matters, and it doesn't cause any pain. As Bret says modern view and quoting help a lot.

Those of us that have been on here for years learn to remember by name on the posters and where they are from if they have been here for some time. Me I registered the first day they started registring names andwas on here for a while before that. I have given my location many a time as being in Ohio or Northwest central Ohio next to the Indiana line. Have also put my complete address on here as well so anybody that has read my posts in the past could know where I live.

About the first year when you started posting I thought you were from the south.
My son lived in Grand Junction for a while and I still didn't know anything about any Delta their in the area.

Chris or Kim can probably change that. Anyone can
find what state you live in from your IP address MI. Hal

You mean anyone that knows how to find out your IP, right? I have no idea how to find it even for myself!

I've been here since we got our first computer back in '96/'97. I had to re-register at least once with a different handle. I can remember a few local guys, but otherwise it's a mystery to me where anyone is from unless they have their location listed in modern view or as part of their handle.

That is what I have been harping about for a long while.
The only people they are hiding from is the folks that have like interest and can't do them any harm.
Why should some one have to look up the IP address when they should have the info on profile on modern view?

New users are not allowed to have their location in their profile in modern view. In fact, if you try to edit your profile, it won't let you unless you also delete your location "for privacy" according to the text of the message.

Updated mine a couple weeks ago and had to delete my location.

(quoted from post at 23:57:14 12/16/14) I believe I remember you are a retired state troper in New york.

Good on you! I can't remember much of anything anymore. Just last week I was writing to a guy here that I thought was someone else. Putting a location in would have made things clear and I wouldn't have embarrassed myself.

Just tried to update my profile, with location, get message that I can not have occupation listed, I did not even try to do that, tried 3 times and gave up. Anyhoo, I am in
Williston, ND in the heart of the oilpatch, and not making a dime off it. I also tried the always use signature, and guess that won't work either.

Dick, Williston, ND
