McConnell are the largest producers of hedge cutters, other makes are Twose, Bomfords & Spearhead - all owned by Alamo but run as separate companies

(quoted from post at 07:41:27 12/15/14) Does anyone ever gather the clippings for compost?

As most of the hedges comprise of Hawthorne, the clippings would be rather sharp

Redneck style.

Like the hanging Allis (?) I came in from field work one day and our hedge was as flat as a pool table. I asked my dad how he did it that neat and he laughed. He loaded our VAC Case and #5 JD mower on a hay rack and pulled it along the hedge.
Wizzo- Love your pictures.

(quoted from post at 12:41:52 12/15/14) why not just tear the hedges out? or are they
used as fences?

They were originally planted as field boundaries and gave shelter to livestock from wind.

During the 1950's & 60's 1000's of miles of hedges were grubbed out to make larger fields.

Then people realised they were havens for birds & wild life, and to-day some are being replanted.
