Have you updated your CPR lately? you also learn to do the Heimlich maneuver. The big thing with helping someone who is choking is to first ask "Can you speak? Can you speak?" in order to be sure that they are really choking. Someone who is yelling "I can't breathe" is obviously not really choking. Even in New York city. All policemen everywhere are trained in CPR.
 
A person with asthma exclaiming they can't breathe, nah, he's just faking, cinch that hold a little more now......
 
That's exactly what I was taught. If you can talk you are breathing and your heart is beating. No need to check further. On the other hand when I was a kid in school I was taught that if you were not breathing and did not have a pulse you were dead. So unless I like you pretty well I'm probably not going to perform CPR if I find you thus. Sorry.
 
Very true in this case. When 6-8 cops w/cpr training all just stand around making comments and when EMs shows up and tests for breathing/pulse and doesn't even attempt CPR or get exited at all you know the subject is gone. But better keep him cuffed so no one else knows. And then they throw him on the stretcher like a loaf of bread and he's almost falling off and no one seems to even care. Hazardous business selling cigarette singles in NY.
 
In the video the guy who did the chokehold is seen laughing in the background with the 6 cops standing around while the guy selling cigarettes is on the ground unconscious. He is also seen waving and smiling at the photographer taking the video. Something is wrong in the country when a guy buys the farm for selling cigarettes illegally.
 
RandyB and sourgum I agree with both of you. I've seen post on several forums that try and justify this killing. I shake my head and wonder where the religious folks are. This man did not have to be killed. But until laws are changed protecting police in incidents like this it won't change.

DA's and PA's have lots of power and are elected. Every year now we see folks being released from prison and years of prison that were innocent. DNA is saving many innocent folks from life behind bars. But somebody has got to pay so these folks can be reelected.
Just remember it can happen to anyone.
 
that is a hell of an attitude!! I am an EMS provider and unless there is absolutely no chance of bringing him back we keep trying. sometimes for an hour or so performing CPR and defribulating!
Once the life is lost it is pretty much final
 
There really seems to be a genuine lack of respect for human
life, I thought the police were to (serve and protect) I consider
myself a law abiding man, but this deal in New York takes the
cake. I can't see any reasonable person taking the police's
side on this one? Question 1. Did anybody else hear the
police says this man was under arrest ?
Question 2. Did the Police warn him?
A. Put your hands up/freeze
B . Lay down on the ground
C. We are the police and will use
force if you don't cooperate.

None of these police office's life were in danger?

I'm sorry folks, I have the highest respect for the Law and the
men and women that in force it. But if I was held to the same
set of standards.. I would have been shot dead, hanged, and
beat for every bar fight, car race, and general run in with the
law back in the day.....
 
I have not seen the entire, unedited video. I can't find that anywhere, all I can find are edited, news media versions that are clearly intended to show what the news wants you to see. I withhold judgement until then.

I can tell you this much though, every time a police officer encounters a subject that resists the chance of the BG or cops death is increased. It's a simple fact. If people would stop resisting, or breaking the laws in the first place, half the problem would be solved. There's no excuse for a wrongful death, but there's no excuse for breaking the law in the first place.
