Heres the problem-ran software to copy utube music to windows media player, ran spybot and had "winjam &conduit search protect " so i deleted a file or maybe a virus got on computer after searching google to rid of . Now the computer wont go on Internet using firefox or internet explorer -i get a "cant load xpcom." Tried google search for fix for can't load xpcom, but require internet use and i cant get on internet (wireless is connected &working on laptop ), tried safe mode with internet but still get cant load xpcom. Also used restore computer to different date but didnt help.

If you are using Windows use restore with the first date before you did the download. This will restore your computer to the previous day. Also download free Malwarebyte which will stop a download that contains a virus.

I did restore using 1 week before, no luck. Cant get on internet to reload firefox. I have windows Vista

I would restore back a month. I just went thru a bunch of crap on mine. I down loaded Norton power eraser 2014. that is free. I already had Norton and System Mechanic. I ran Norton scan twice. The second time Norton found a problem that needed to be uninstalled and then re installed. I then ran system mechanic scan and still had a problem staying connected. I ran the power eraser 2014 scan then repeated the system mechanic scan. It found several things that needed repaired. That was last week and it is still working fine tonight.

I had an issue a while back and needed to uninstall Firefox and couldn't do it from the control panel either for whatever reason. Ended up putting Firefox on a thumb drive from another computer and just reinstalled it over the top and problems went away. Firefox did have an update a while back that ran a muck and people were having all sorts of issues. The latest full install corrects it.

(quoted from post at 20:05:11 12/02/14) Yes, still get can't load xpcom

FWIW- XPCOM is a cross platform component object model, similar to Microsoft COM. It has multiple language bindings, allowing XPCOM components to be used and implemented in JavaScript, Java, and Python in addition to C++. Interfaces in XPCOM are defined in a dialect of IDL called XPIDL.

XPCOM itself provides a set of core components and classes, e.g. file and memory management, threads, basic data structures (strings, arrays, variants), etc. The majority of XPCOM components are not part of this core set and are provided by other parts of the platform (e.g. Gecko or Necko) or by an application or even by an extension.

Another option- The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Another- "I had the same problem. Did a bunch of Windows Vista updates on about 8/16/13. After restarting etc, whenever I tried to start Firefox, I got "Couldn't load XPCOM" and no browser. Also my Windows appearance and colors and sizing were all messed up. THANKS Bill Gates!

I didn't even try uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox, because seemed like it didn't work for you. But here's what DID work: I first logged into a different user account from the one I usually use (but still an administrator account). I revved up Internet Explorer (held my nose), went to the Mozilla site, downloaded Firefox (as if I didn't already have it), installed it, and kazam! Everything worked. Then (and I don't know if this was important or not), before I closed Firefox in that user account, I switched users, went to the account I usually use (and wouldn't load Firefox before), started Firefox, which went fine.

The only thing you might need to do is simply download and install Firefox from IE, but I included all the gory details just in case."

Read the article-i cant get on firefox when i click on it says "
cant loadxpcom ".

Do you have another browser besides FF installed? If yes, you can uninstall FF and go to Mozilla and reload it om the other browser. If not, find a friend that will download it to a flash drive/memory stick/whatever they're called and do it that way. I'd get it set up and start running anti-virus and malware programs.

Another thought- what are you running on that machine? My geek Pastor tells me that he's had a mess of people running Windows XP report system failures all within a weeks time. I wouldn't put it past MS to send out a killer virus or something to
get rid of XP and force people to go to buy Windows 8 or whatever.
