Mixing single weight oils.

If you have a tractor with 30wt. oil in the crankcase can you add 10wt. to it as the tractor takes oil? I've got a 460 Farmall with fresh 30wt. in the case. I'd rather it was thinner for the cold winter. The tractor takes oil so can I add 10wt. as needed for the rest of the winter and then do an oil change in the spring with fresh 30wt. oil? Yes, I'm using IH low ash oil.

You can, but it is certainly not 10W30 as a result. If I had the oil I would not hesitate to do it. if I was buying it, I would drain the existing oil and run multi wt, probably 15-40. Jim

I would not add 10W oil to it for any reason. If you want to use it in the winter I would put a block heater or coolant heater in it to warm it up to make for easier starts when its cold. This is what I have done on my Oliver and Case diesels. Just my two cents. Bandit

Or add something like Rislone or marvel mystery oil ? I used to do this to my Gas pick up that had 15w40 in it when it got cold out.

Gas tractor? If you have a clean bucket or clean jugs handy, I'd drain out the fresh 30 wt oil and keep it covered to reuse next summer. 5W30, 10W30, or 10W40 oil should work fine until the weather gets hot again (80F), or the next oil change. Car and pickup manufacturers have recommended 5W30 year-round for the last 20 years now.
