Beautiful Day up at the Canyon Pics

Wife and I drove from Scotsdale up to the Grand Canyon a while back and got a few pictures right after about six or eight inches of snow. Thought you might enjoy the pictures.

The wife and I visited the Grand Canyon aboot 10 years ago. It is spectacular, we were there late in the afternoon and one could see how it changes color as the sun is setting.
School books say it took thousands of years to form.
I never did believe that. There are archeologist now saying it might have been formed in hours or several days at the most. The great flood reshaped the world in a short period of time.

awesome always. better with snow! I've been to the North Rim when there was snow. One of my favorite places.

I was married on the mountain in the first pic, and asked my wife to marry me at the bottom of that canyon. Jim

I remember the first time I made that drive. The drive is a show before you get to the canyon. Nice photos.. thanks for posting them. Have to be in Case Grande latter this month.

Who is the pretty lady with the old guy??? LOL

The Grand Canyon is a great national treasure. I have visited it 3 times over 50 years. I see something new each time.

Thanks! That is beautiful, hope to get to see it some day, it's on my bucket list!

Every time I see pictures like this I wonder what the west bound pioneers thought when they rolled up to the edge of that!

We drove right past it about 30 years ago, wife didn't feel good that day so we stopped at the 4 corners awhile then into Colorado.

JD,
I was waiting for somebody to say something about that. As you can see from the road, I am nothing more than a crusty old farmer but I sure have a nice wife. Married well above myself. She is a pure city girl and knows nothing about the farm. That being said she has taught school for thirty years and I know nothing about teaching school. Makes for great conversation and laughter at dinner. Could write a book on the subject. As it should be in all marriages, she is the most important person in the world to me. Thanks for noticing. Tom

I was there in March this year. Awsome place. Only place I would like to see again and next time spend more that a few days.

I did a solo visit Sept 1967, beautiful views. Better half and I went about 20 years ago, Dec, was fogged in but lifted for 15 minutes while we were there, just enough to see north rim. Couple years ago, January, totally clear and we spent a half day there on the tour, and in the visitor center. Wonderful trip for us.

Yes, I did enjoy the pictures. I honestly did not know if it ever snowed there or not, those are the first photos of snow on the canyon that I remember seeing. Thanks for sharing.

4th photo down captures some perspective. I remember how the plateaus below, look as if you were viewing them from a window of an airplane, yet you are just standing at the lookout point. That is a long way down. Seen it twice so far, its really something when there are snow squalls off in the distance. Last time I was there, it had been snowing most of the day, almost a foot somewhere in the vicinity where I stayed, lot of pine trees as I recall where this was. I did a trip from Albuquerque NM to Colorado, Utah, then down to AZ, eventually to California. A person could disappear for a good long while out there, so much to see. I tried it for a month, was a lot of fun.

It was explained that as the earth tilted there were a big lake up stream and the contents rushed out forming the canyon.
There is no sediment in the gulf of California to indicate years of erosion as there is in the gulf at New Orleans.

No way the Grand Canyon was formed overnight. Having spent 17 days rowing a raft through the bottom of the canyon, I can tell you it would take eons to cut through and polish the rock the way it has.

(quoted from post at 16:50:20 11/28/14) Wife and I drove from Scotsdale up to the Grand Canyon a while back and got a few pictures right after about six or eight inches of snow. Thought you might enjoy the pictures.

The Grand Canyon and all the other national parks of the southwest should be on everyone's bucket list! We were fortunate to live in southern Utah for 5 years, my wife working 7 on, 7 off at the hospital and I as a general contractor. We tried to do something on most of her weeks off...beautiful country. South of St. George you can hang your feet over the edge and look straight down to the Colorado river...not for the faint of heart. Another bucket list item...Lake Powell, it has more miles of coastline than the US pacific ocean.

I'm not a geologist, but the evidence of it taking thousands of years to form does not hold up.
Sometimes what we have been told all our life doesn't always happen the way they want us to believe.

One piece of evidence is that there is no sediment buildup at the gulf of CA. that would be there if it took thousands of years of erosion to form the canyon.
Another one is, there was a inland sea over a large part of the USA at an early date of the planet, the water went somewhere when the earth was shifting.

I do not close up my mind on any subject. A lot of things we have been told isn't the way it happened.
Such as Columbus was the one that discovered America, etc.

Like I said, having spent a fair amount of time in the bottom of that(and lots of other canyons)...I just don't see how it was created any other way aside from looooottts of time. The rock cliffs have been polished by yeeeeeeeeaaaaars worth of water and sediment flowing over them.
It would take the sort of PRESSURE used in water-jet cutting tables to cut through that rock fast enough to be done overnight. It's not like the river flows through 6000 feet of desert sand...

I believe that a good discussion of things is good for the soul, without someone attacking the messenger.
I have read in the good book, to question all things and hold good what is true.
We are at a difference of opinion, but what does it matter? There is more pressing issues to be addressed. We don't know any one that was there when it was formed.

Nice pics!! But a good example of poor farming!! If they would have just installed good terraces or some underground outlets in the right place years ago they would not have that big ditch!!
