Another Old Ford Video

Part 2 of starting the 39 Ford a couple of weeks ago to warm it up for a long overdue oil change. Runs pretty good now on all 8 most of the time. Hoping to do a little work on it over the winter as it is in the work shop now.
39 Ford

That's a nice old 39, it sure looks similar to the 40. That 53 Merc caught my eye, even if it is a 4 door. I had a 54 Merc 2 door HT, I loved the car, all except the overhead valve engine. I reckon Ford spoiled me with their flatheads.

Not much difference in the 40 and 39 Fords. Grille is the big one. That Merc is a 52 and was also my dad's car. Stay tuned for a video on that one.

Again, I purely love these videos... and that steering wheel is so cool.

What is the knob on the top/center of the dash for? Is it a vent control or something else?

That knob on the dash actually cranks the windshield open from the bottom. The rubber handle is old and brittle so I have not tried it in years. There is a lever under the dash to open up the cowl vent for extra ventilation as well. Just like my old IH trucks.
No vents needed today with our snowfall advisory, strong wind and +5F. The Ford is safely under cover.

I had a '39 Deluxe sedan 2 door. you can tell the Deluxe from the Standard by the 2 tail lights on the Deluxe. It was a fun car, I remember changing the transmission and it was done from above by removing the floorboards. They were literally made of wood and this made it easy to change the trans. It was also the first year of the hydraulic brakes in the Ford. It was the last year of the floor shift.

John, you certainly know your 39 Fords as all those points are right. I did not know until recently that the Deluxe and Standard differed in the number of tail lights. The whole front clip is different too as seen here on my 38 Deluxe parts car.
