John Deere Lanz

Following the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930's, General Franco the dictator turned the Country into an almost closed state.

The only way that vehicle manufacturers could sell their products there was to establish a company to make and assemble vehicles using some Spanish made components and Spanish labour.

Lanz had established a company there manufacturing the German designed single cylinder horizontal diesel engined tractors. When John Deere bought the Lanz company, they discontinued these obsolete designs in Germany.

In Spain they continued to manufacture these tractors for several years afterwards, painting them in JD colours with John Deere Lanz badges. Most were sold in Spain, but a small number were exported to South American Countries.

Nice photo of a neat old tractor... and interesting
info too. I didn't know JD bought the Lantz
company. The only Lantz I've seen have been a few
small sized tractors at a show in Iowa.

(Your photos of farming in Wales are just
beautiful!)
