Help on Char-lynn powersteering

I have a question on the pulley? We have been putting a power steering unit on a FArmall M. We had decided to use the system that runs the pump next to the govenor. I have this pulley that goes on the crank next to the other crank pulley. part number IHS 1420.How does this fasten to the crank? Do I have to losen the bolt on the crank next to the main pulley? Need to know thanks Brent..

I've seen em two ways.First just use the extra groove on the crank shaft pulley.Second is to use a 'taper lock' hub.remove the crank pin and install the pulley over the shaft end.I am sure there are other ways, someone will chime in.

Remove the crank pin. There is a set screw at 90° to the pin that needs to be removed before driving out the pin. Install the new pulley. The lip should fit over the front edge of the existing pulley. Install a longer roll pin. (I don't think the original pin is long enough to contact the new pulley) Rotate the new pulley CCW until it is tight. The load of the steering pump will keep it from coming loose.

I could not find that set screw on mine, so I just drove the pin out. Also, there is not enough clearance for the pulley to slip in between the crankshaft pulley and the front bolster. Had to drain the radiator, remove the hoses, and then remove the 4 bolts on each side that hold the bolster to the frame rails. Used a pry bar to slide the bolster forward about 1 inch, and then the pulley would slip in. Installing power steering is NOT nearly as easy as it is portrayed on these forums. You need a well equipped shop, the proper tools, and some experience.

Hey thanks for your answers. I went down bought me a bolt that fit where the stell key was. Which is not there because the tractor has a starter. So I made a bolt as a key to hold on the extra pulley for the pump. Should I put a counter key in it to hold it in the whole? Or does the pulley grove keep it tight against the other pulley? Brent
