12 Volt Converstion Questions

I have a '53 Golden Jubilee Naa with a 12 volt converstion kit. Having trouble getting it started,so i went to NAPA to get new points , plugs ,cap, roto and voltage resistor. The guy and I started talking. Should I be getting 6 volts or 12 volts at the points? Should I have a 6 volt or 12 volt coil ? If its not to much trouble can someone give me some parts number for points , plugs , etc. I much appreciate it.

I would go with the 12V coil and eliminate the resistor.
You should have 12V at the points when they are open.

Plugs:
Autolite 437
Champion H12

Points:
NAPA #CS749
NAPA HEAVY DUTY PIERCED (ventilated) #CS753
Standard Ignition #FD-8081
Standard Ignition Blue Streak #FD-8081X (Premium)

Condensor:
NAPA #FA66
Standard Ignition #FD-75
Standard Ignition Blue Streak #FD75X (Premium)

Rotor:
NAPA #FA67
Standard Ignition #FD-108

Distributor Cap:
NAPA #FA352
Standard Ignition #FD-128

12 volt coil, no resistor needed:
NAPA #IC14SB

A dropping resistor will pass full voltage when not under load (Points open). This means that the meter is not a substantial load and the resistor effectively passes full volts. If the points are closed, there will be no voltage applied at all.
The resistor, measured with an ohm meter, will measure around 2 to 3 ohms.
A 12v coil for a resistor system will state (on box or printed on the side) for use with an external resistor. When no resistor is used, a 12v coil will indicate no external resistor required (it is wound with more and finer wire to operate in 14 volts). Jim

(quoted from post at 06:12:39 11/26/14) Thanks you guys I'll try getting rid of the resistor. Have a Happy Thanksgiving

Be aware that you could burn up the coil if the coil is not made for use with straight 12V.
